Just wanted to throw out there since Salamanders are classified as Warbeasts they get swiftstride.
    Charge/Persue 3d6 pick highest.
    Makes em even better now.

No it says theyre warbeasts with the "monster and handlers" USR, which is a bit different than being a monster with handlers.
Eitherway as long as the skinks live there is no benefit to swiftstride as you need all the models in the unit to have the rule in order to get a 3rd die, and the skinks don't have it.

    Damn, well that makes sense.
So in theory if all the skinks die and the sally somehow makes the stupidity test then it would have that ability?

we use tham that they have swiftstride rule even if skinks are alive, than that makes sence to make tham warbeast or other thing is that in brb, i think, theres no entry on skink handlers so the entry on salamander have to take in side skink handlers ass well, oi mean its listed not a salamander alone but a salamander unit.
    sorry for bad english

So I think what your saying is since the Skink Handlers don't have a type the unit is actually entirely war beast and therefore would get the strider rule.

Hmm that's a good point, it even says in the monster and handlers USR, that the monster (or warbeast in this case) is treated as the extent of the unit.
    Strider away :)

Is this different than the way it works for Skaven and the little guys that prod their ogres and other creatures into battle? The last rat player I faced didn't use swiftstride because the animal tamer didn't have the rule as well; I came under the impression that they were some sort of mixed unit, rather than monster/handlers.

The Skink handlers are essentially just wound markers.

Handlers can not be targeted nor can they be used for establishing line of sight; it is all about the Monsters base.

It says in the Big Book that you ignore handlers for all purposes except in close combat where they get to make supporting attacks but can not be attacked themselves.

I have to agree its legal rules as written. but unless it was for tourney prizes I'd probably not bring it up. I still have to reassure people that my sallies can march and shoot legally.

    @ Gor-rok
Yea it's different, skaven pack masters (i think thats what they're called) are a part of a mixed unit and have their own special rules in the armybook.

I think the RAW in summary
Is Salamanders are Type Warbeast, with the monster and handlers rules.
As well as being considered skirmishers.

Skirmish lets them March and Shoot.
    Warbeast grants them swiftstride.

Salies can march and shoot as they are using a 'template breath weapon'

IMO no one can march and shoot with conventional pewpew weapons.

Skirmishers can, as long as their weapon doesn't have the 'Move or Fire' special rule. Check the main rulebook page 77 under the "Fire on the March" heading.

Yep, They're classed as Warbeasts.. Though to me that's as much a nerf as it is a buff. I mean, you very rarely face a situation where your sallies are looking to overrun someone from beating them in combat, so the only real benefit is the ability to survive more often when they flee. On the other hand though, you're now vulnable to both kinds of stomps, meaning most units which are actually fast enough to catch you, are going to wreck you even more in combat.

What's even funnier is that they fear fire...
On the upside other warbeasts fear them since the spout flames attack is flaming.

They are labelled as skirmishers, which means they have the march and shoot ability.
