Hello, been playing lizardmen for a bit now, got the good old cavalry when i started collecting, used every game, no problems. just started to wounder if they are worth the points... This all started when i talked to a games-workshop employee, he mocked them to my despair :depressed:

me and my friends all started playing at round about the same time, me lizards, 1 friend beastmen and other woodelves. Vs both the saurus cavalry has done the Best! every game the man of the match in my eyes. with their high armour save toughness and w/s i would be suprised if one when down.

So im confused in why this man would say they are one of the most pointless things in our army...
Does any of u field them? how they work for u? and am i just lucky? :artist:
    Thanks Ianhorn

Well, first as heavy cavalry, 3+ armor save isn't much.. Second, they cost 35pts...
I think alot of people would field 3 kroxieswith a cost 1 pts less then 5 knight without command. I don't say they ain't no good, just that kroxies has been very good. Also, I do use cavalry saurus from time to time myself, and vs wood elfs, I would probably never take kroxis but rather go for a higher armor save becous of they'r heavy shooting phase.

    Enlighted or confused?

I don't really agree with above on several things.

They indeed, are way to expensive. 35 points for a unit of semi-heavy cavalry that drops dead when archers only look at them? No thanks. But! If the enemy has nerly no removal in the form of magic or shooting they can be extremely good. There quick and fantastic flankers. 2At str 5 on the charge + 5 str 4 attacks are nothing to sneeze at. Combined with there special movement banner (wich you will always use if you have cavalry) there not to be taken lightly.

Pin a unit in it's flank and you will tear the unit appart most of the time. In the new edition they will be alot better, but at the moment, i would only ever use 1 unit of 5 with the huanchi's blessed totem, but never more.

I usually take the huanchi banner myself, but has never come to love my coldones for their durability. Maybe becous they mostly got in fight with giants or chaos knights :p

I has yet to try coldones agains anything other than chaos warriors/deamons so that might explain how I see them :)

Well they will benefit from the improved scaly skin save, so they will now have a 2+ armour save as standard in the new rules... Also the saurus have higher initiative than normal saurus. I don't know how their points will compare.

In my experience with HE dragon princes, 2 attack heavy cavalry are absolutely priceless and hit sooooo hard in combat. With saurus on top of cold ones rather than s3 elves on horses, these boys will have much better survivability in longer combats because they will still dish out death. Well worth it IMO, I will probably (depending on points) try to take a unit of 8, 6 at the front and two at the back to absorb shooting so they hopefully still reach combat at full strength. They should be able to (maybe with the warbanner) be able to form a solid front on fighting unit that can take on ranked infantry without help. Either that, or I may ditch their command and make them 6 models to be support in the flanks.

Also different gaming groups and different regions tend to use different styles of armies and tactics, so basically (and this is a key point to all of warhammer) if they work well for you, then keep using them regardless of what other people say. It is all about testing things out on the field yourself and seeing what works and what doesn't for you, theory-hammer only goes so far.
