I was thinking about what I would like for my army commander , and I came up with this: Saurus Oldblood on Carnosaur With Light Armor and a Shield Magic Items:The Blade of Realities and Venom of the firefly frog The idea behind this guy, is a hammer unit that can pretty much fight anything and come out on top. How well would this work in an actual battle?
well, that build would be pretty pointless accually The problem is that you have to use a magic weapon over a mundane weapon and venom only works with mundane weapons... The idea is nice but it wouldn't work
It's a heck of a hammer. The problem comes when you are dealing with a mobile army or someone willing to spare some flying units to frenzy-bait the thing around for most of the game. It's a big point sink when you consider the frenzy-bait possibilities.
as it has been said, venom is rather useless with a magic weapon. otherwise its a pretty decent build if you manage to get the carnosaur into combat where it can not charge anything it doesn't want afterwards. you have to be carefull not to be frenzy baited
it's not that poison doesn't work on magic weapons, it's that the item in question specifically affects mundane weapons only. Given the shear volume of high strength attacks an old blood on a carnosaur puts out, I don't think the poison would make THAT much difference, so yes, I would say it's still viable. If you want to maximize killiness, I might give him a banehead in case they make the leadership checks (not that I think you would need it).
I've put this out before in an army building post but here is my concept for an Oldblood on Carni; Oldblood on Carni Scimitar of the Sun Resplendant Maiming Shield L. Armour He has a crazy amount of attacks (especially once Frenzy gets off) and his str value is high enough to negate or significantly reduce most armour except in knights or tooled up SCs. Just be carefull of being baited once your frenzied!
This is what I was going to post. This build is a destroyer of hobbies. Your only fears are freny baiting, killing blow on the carnosaur and high strength attacks. The Carnosaur is only T5 and an armor save of 4+, a unit of Chaos Warriors with GW would eat him up.
yeah i've used the 'massive attacks' oldblood/carno before (in fact i used it back in 6th ed.!), but particularly nowadays, the problem is the relatively high vulnerability of the carnosaur. obviously vs. shooting there's not a lot you can do about it, though the fact he's no longer a large target helps a little. i plan to have a go with the oldblood carrying the sword of the hornet so the carno doesn't get as chopped in CC.
