I'm new here, so hello! I've got my army started over the weekend with 10 Temple Guard and 15 (I lost one) Saurus Warriors. They've got their basic blue scheme done and basecoats on the bone/teeth/shields/weapons. I'll start a plog soon :artist:

Anyway, I was searching the net for cool frogs/lizards to have as inspiration.
    I came across this guy:

I thought he'd be a great inspiration for a Slann. Any advice on how to carry this out? I'm thinking paint strategies as well as your thoughts on the idea.

Also, I'll be posting on here quite a bit as I get started. Thanks in advance!

Re: Any Advice on how to carrry out my Slann Inspiration?

Awsome image and very cool idea, i would recomend painting the basic frog the redish scheme that this guy has and then after that is done start highlighting the face and hands with mixes of the basic red and black tones mixed with a light brown somthing like a Karak Stone.

from the image it looks like the more raised/protruding the area is from the frog the more tan it is, so doing a layering highlight system may work well just rememver THIN COATS or els it will be a ball of paint at the end.

Re: Scalesy's paint blog (Slann Started 1/4/12)

That's a nice start to your slann! Your scheme isn't a million miles away from your original inspiration photo. It's very well executed! The etheric green look you've gone with for his eyes contrast the grey/orange skin tone nicely. I can't wait to see him finished sat on his palanquin. :)

Nice Slann i like his eyes, yellow skinks is too bright for me. For the future use less drybrush and try glazes.

The slann paint scheme is really well executed. He could maybe have a bit of the orange colouring on his chest somewhere to break up the brown a bit. Either that or on his chin/under-lip/neck area.

Maybe one thin extra highlight layer on the horns would add a little bit, too.

Your little lizards on your palanquin look awesome!! I think I'm going to have to go and re-do mine to look slightly more fabulous.

Very cool Slann, you captured the essence of the frog image you posted really well! Also, your Saurus Warriors look nice, I especially like your bronze. The Skinks are still in progress, right? At least to me they look like they could use washes and highlights. Well, they were against a Treeman, so maybe that's their "oh, shit, we are so dead! Sigh, well, for the Old Ones, then..." skin.

Anyway, you have a really nice army coming up here, keep up the good work!

Thanks all! I kind of like the Slann belly being drab, but maybe I'll lighten it up. The skinks most definitely are works in progress, but they're actually washed orange which didn't really photograph well. Thanks all for your kind words on my Slann. Next up are Kroxis, I'll post them when I get them!
