Ello. I have been fiddling with 1500pt builds and wanted to add a scar-vet as a hammer. This seems a bit of a toss up between an army list and tactics, I posted here because I am looking for recommendations based on tactics ~ with hopefully some explanation. Now I have three competing but similar scar-vet builds: Saurus Scar Light arm + BSB Great weapon + Venom of Firefly Frog + Dawnstone Cold One 4 Str 7 attacks + 1 Str 4 (Coldone) + magic weapon + poison a beast essentially with rerollable 2+ armor saves Or: Saurus Scar Light arm +Shield + BSB Gold Sigil Sword + Venom of Firefly Frog Cold One 4 Str 5 Attacks (but Int 10!) 1 Str 4 (Coldone) including poison + 1+ armor save Or Saurus Scar Light arm +Shield + BSB Venom of Firefly Frog + Shield of Maiming Cold One For extra attack. I want this scar vet to be a veritable sledge hammer. He is BSB so he will be right in there with my saurus blocks hammering in with flank charges. Providing 2+ to combat res not including his wounds and adding fear What would you guys suggest? Also I don't understand why people say go great sword + shield?? I thought cause great sword is 2 hands you can't use a shield anyway? greatsword + rerollable saves seems to be a very powerful build for hammering into monsters or elite infantry as well. I know it is a little points heavy but 1) I don't have the extra models 2) I really want a dedicated hammer. This dude will prob run with 2x 24 saurus 2x 10 skirm 2x6 cham 1x3 terradons and 2x1 sallies. Thanks for your time, I have looked through the forums a bit and found approximately these builds laying around but I didn't know which one would suit my desired role the most. All the best.
"Gold Sigil Sword + Venom of Firefly Frog " You can't use the venom with a magic weapon, only with a regular weapon (hand weapon, spear, halbred, or great weapon)
Hah well good on me, I'm still very new to warhammer. So we scratch that option then. See wasn't that easy lol
I might be wrong on this, but I'm also fairly certain you can't take BSB and give him a great weapon. Also, your third option your taking a regular shield and a maiming shield, one or the other.
I have looked pretty closely and seen no information about BSB + Great weapon. But it's a damn big book and I'm very new to it lol. Yeah forgot to remove the norm shield option by mistake.
I know before you couldn't take BSB w/ a great weapon or a shield. But in 8th Ed you are allowed to take a shield so long as your character is normally allowed to have one. This is my uncertainty as I don't have my rule book with me so I'm unsure about the GW. However as a GW require two hands and you still have to hold up the Battle Standard I'm reasonably certain it's not allowed. Sorry for the long winded explaination
BSB can carry whatever he likes so long as he doesn't combine magic gear and magic banner (unless your BSB is the slann). GW/Venom of Firefly/Dawnstone is probably your best bet if you are hitting flanks with him. Add Dragonhelm to him to make it a 1+ rerollable armor would be my only recommendation.
