What do you think of this. Scar-Vet with Jag Charm deploys with Slann right behind him. First turn he Marches 16", then Slann moves 4" and casts steed of shadows. Result: Scar-Vet moves 36" and counts as charge to impacted unit I haven't tried it but it sounds cool...
Yes, the JSOD first turn charge is a good tactic. Unfortunately, your opponent will almost always attempt to dispel the steed spell. However, since it is a low cast spell you can use it early on the assumption your opponent will try to dispel it to draw out dice from his pool. As a word of caution, sometimes it is better to wait a turn to send your JSOD into the heart of the enemy. Often, the enemy's deployment will still be scrunched up enough that he will be able to deal more easily with the JSOD than if he had been moving his other units forward for a turn.
The first turn JSoD charge has the potential to be so disruptive to your enemy that I found that on occasions I was using other spells to draw out DD, preparing for the steed at the end! In this example it can be a great tool for drawing out early scrolls or things like that
The biggest time I used it to help myself was when I used every spell and wasted my foes dispel dice, then hurled him across the field into the Black Coach, dealing it one wound and since it counts as a chariot, blew the damn thing up.
I was kicking around a simular concept. Rather than the Jaguar given them the Subn sword so they have 6 base attacks.
The problem is your opponent will try his best to dispel it and if he does you have 100+ points in 1 guy sitting out in the middle of the table just waiting to die.
That depends on how you use him, I face HE WAY too often and I've learned how to very easily prep for a charge and not be in sight of a war machine.
