Unless you need to because of the campaign/scenario/tournament (or when you want to bring a Carnosaur) do you ever field a Saurus Scar Veteran or Old Blood? What kind of weapons & equipment do you like to give said Saurus character, either for general lists or against a specific opponent?
Fairly oftem angainst most oponents, ususaly I go for durable builds, with thingd like ws10 from dualing baldes, 1+ armor saves and some sort of ward. for a cheep scarvet, its hard to beat the greatweapon/ vennom of the fire fly frog combo. for a disposable hero.
Two very common scar vet builds: Scar vet, cold one, LA, charmed shield, dawnstone, burning blade Scar vet, cold one, LA, GW, dragonhelm, amulet of Itzl, firefly venom
^^^ What he said ^^^ Yes. I always run a SV unless I am doing a theme list or something. OBs are not worth the extra 60 points unless you want a Carnosaur. Even then, running those two mounted SVs will give you roughly the same bang for your buck with more flexibility.
Interesting builds; I will have to try them out. Do you like your Scar Vets always riding with Cold Ones or do you sometimes run them in a block of foot Saurus?
I always run my on foot in the blocks. With the plethora of common magic armor it is easy as chips to give them a decent armor save.
I also put mine in my saurus or TG block. If I run one on a cold one, I generally take some cavalry to give him a look out sir. I will usually put two of them in there for the extra kill-y-ness.
Giving them the right gear mean you can easily give them a 1+ AS and a cannon ball bouncing item. This mean you dont have to fork out for the costly cav.
I do occasionally run an old blood with the armour of destiny of destiny the piranha blade and bane head in order to go head to head with vampires and tomb kings where killing a general has massive impact on a whole army other than that the armour of fortune great weapon and VoTFF is quite effective on my scar vets
how about something like.... . . Saurus Oldblood, 145 pts . . Shield, . . Burning Blade of Chotec, . . Glittering Scales, . . Aura of Quetzl, . . The Other Trickster's Shard, This guy is a seriously tough combat character.
Pretty decent other abilities as well: Extra -2 to armor save weapon. All attacks count as Flaming. -2 to hit when attempting to hit wearer in close combat. All models in base contact must re-roll succesful ward saves. 6+ Ward Save in combat when on foot and fighting with a shield; no effect if mounted. 2+ Armour save bonus. Naturally being St-5 and To-5 with 6 attacks helps as well.
I didnt realise you got a parry save with a magic weapon and sheild. Also doesnt an oldblodd only have 5 attacks
Pretty sure you dont, it's handweapon/shield only, a magic weapon doesn't count as a hand weapon, unless this has been FAQ'd?
Island of Blood rule book page 173, not sure about the BRB, but where the magic weapons are listed: "a magic weapon is treated as a hand weapon" but "a magic weapon cannot be used alongside a shield to gain a parry save" So it does count as a hand weapon but explicitly states it doesn't get a parry save
Great building and I'm sure he'd wreck faces. Makes me nervous running around without a charmed shield or ward save. Damn you cannons Wait did you mean as an on foot build? Then yeah I guess that would work out plenty sweet
Personally i love old bloods. I mainly use two old bloods in a list and no slann. The general has a GW with VoTFF, Armour of Destiny, Aura of Quetzl (so 2+/4+ and -1 to hit) The other is on Cold One with Burning Blade, Maiming Shield (looking to change) and the 4+ ward save amulet in BRB (1+/4+, -4 armour) Just my preference though
