Any UK Lizzies planning on attending the event this year? Would be good to put some names to faces!

I'm currently trying to decide whether to go with my Lizards or Dark Elves. Will make a decision when I see the comp, which I'm super-hyped about!

Haha! In my defence my dark elf army looks nicer and is probably more powerful :p

Haha well! I painted the lizards first, then used all the techniques I learnt to good effect on the Elves. Its also a lot easier to do silver armour and Red cloth to good effect than all those scales!

That being said, my 2015 objectives are to re base and touch up my Temple Guard, and getting these done by scgt would expect a good objective. Hm!

im not here to judge :p

my lizzies suffered the exact same:

First army: not so good, but learned a lot of tricks

Second army (VC / UL): way better, used the tricks.

Now im returning to my lizzies for conversions and re-touch! :D

    Comp is up!

    The specific Lizardmen comp is:

Honestly, I expected a lot worse. It's still irritating that the first mounted Scar-Vets and Oldbloods take a hard comp hit, when you can get the first mounted Master on a Pegasus without one (or two if they are only mounted on Steeds), and Rippers and Cold One Riders aren't soft choices, but the restrictions on Slann upgrades have been lessened considerably since last year, and it's great to see the Solar Engine Bastiladon counting towards soft choice as well as it's crappy Sotek variety.

I'll have my first draft list up on the Army Lists forum shortly, but on a first reading I'm definitely leaning towards Lizards over Dark Elves now.

I don't understand the thought process behind a lot of these choices, honestly.

Bastiladon as a soft choice is sorta baffling, because for that cost, the benefits are just immense.

And then the hard comps - "Cowboys" aren't as brokenly good as a lot of people make them out to be, but worse still, restricting them to this degree is going overboard, especially when coupled with the heavy limitation on skinks.

Basically, they don't want us using Cowboys or skinks, which leaves us... what, exactly? Huge blocks of easy to kill Saurus, that any death wizard will wipe out turn 1 or 2 if he gets purple sun?

These comp systems always seems to overdo the restrictions, turning otherwise fairly flexible builds into mono-builds where you barely have any choices to choose from. They seriously need to show some retraint, and stop comping things just for the sake of making the lists longer. SCs like tetto is understandable to a degree, but a huge list like that is complete overkill.

It's worth pointing out that the SCGT comp is actively aimed at promoting "medium" power armies, and there are general power pool restrictions (such as Death magic) that I haven't included but are listed in the pack.

That being said, I do agree with some of your points. As one of the main organisers plays Lizardmen (Dan Heelan), I get the very strong impression that they go a little overboard on the Lizardmen comp. Besides the aforementioned restrictions on Scar-Vets which Dark Elves don't suffer (baffling, imo), the 'soft choice' pool seems ill-thought out. For instance, there aren't any Core soft choices at all. WTF? Most armies have these, for instance going back to Dark Elves, 30+ Spears/Swords is a Soft pool choice. Where's the 40+ Skink Cohort or 30+ Saurus Warriors which allow Lizardmen to pick up some soft comp in Core? Are Ripperdactyls really considered good, and therefore not counted as Soft choices as well? Why not Saurus Cav, too? Is Harmonic + Channelling Staff really just as good as a flipping Daemon Prince with all the toys except Flight?! Because they are both 1 power choice.

Looks like a good comp for Dual Carnosaurs!

The soft choices look tough because they either have a very high cost or are limited to 1. The most I could reasonably see would be a comp score of 8 if you went with Dual Carno + Ancient Steg with EoTG, or single Carno + 2 Ancient Stegs with EotG.

The only way to incorporate more soft choices is to have a potpourri of units that don't really work well together. 1 Troglodon, 1 Bastiladon, 2 Razordons, and 1 Kroxigors, for instance. Individually, the units aren't terrible under the comp, but together they make very little sense.

Apologies for the noob question, but where do you get the info from?

I hope that will tell you how it works.

Having a look (love the compaq) I made a 7 that I think has the power to beat any list that can be fielded. A few of the stronger characters might be a problem, but can be still solved.

OB CO GW glittering scales, tali of pres, OTS
    Gor'rok
    Tetto
    Scarvet AoD GW BSB

    3 units of skirmishers
    33 Saurus FC

    5 Chamo
    Basti Solar engine
    8 Kroxigor ancient

3 Sallies (a 2/1 split is prob right) w/extra snacks
    2 Razors

This gives you a giant stubborn anvil. Strong as hell chaff. Anti horde. Tetto. And a none character deathstar. For those that doubt it's power try casting reroll 1's on the krox. It turns from 10 wounds to 20. For a 5+ to cast it's just the end to everything. Only nurgle and powerful magic can reduce the dmg at all, and even then it's the tits. Attach your OB to the unit at the start to so you only need to use 1 vanguard.
The weakness is low drops so you can get out deployed (but you are a 7 so you can pick meeting engagement atleast 4 out of the 6 games) and vanguard so that don't have time to shot or magic you.
No scroll, or lvl4. Means you are super weak to purple sun. Pit ain't great either.

Still I would take something like this. Or combined elves, cause that shit is wrong.....
