Hi Guys and a Happy New Year!!! I'm still very new to fantasy after 40k so would like a little advice to my new army. Slann Mage Level 4, Harmonic convergence, Battle Standard, Channelling Staff Thinking of death Skink priest Level 2 Heavens, Dispel Scroll Scar Vet Cold One, Great Weapon, Light Armour, shield, Dragonhelm, Dawnstone 20 Saurus Warriors Spear, Shield, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer 10 Skink skirmishers Javelin, Shield 10 Skink skirmishers Javelin, Shield 10 Skink skirmishers Javelin, Shield Bastiladon Solar Engine 6 Skink Chameleons 1 Salamander Extra handler 1 Salamander Extra handler All in at 1500 pts P.S How do you upload pictures
Great list! Drop the shield though, your scar vet is at maximum armour without it (1+). How do you plan on protecting your slann? He is also pretty expensive for 1500 points, I would consider slimming him a bit, and get some more saurus for your rather small saurus block. I would personally consider moving the BSB to the scar vet - but thats a matter of preference. You have alot of magic - maybe remove the skink or reduce him to level 1? All in all I think you have come up with a solid list.
Yeah drop the Priest or make him lvl 1 and Beasts is probably more useful. I'd probably lose him altogether though, lvl 2 Priest with a scroll is almost 10% of your points. If you drop him and a unit of Skinks you can pick up 14 Temple Guard to make a 6 x 3 unbreakable unit with your Slann. Also finding a way to squeeze Wandering Deliberations in might be good. Keeps all your casting values low so you can rattle off tonnes of spells with only a small chance of miscast. Maybe drop BSB? LD9 Coldblooded is very strong already.
Looks like a quite solid list.. Not sure if a slann without templeguard will survive at all! Primary target, especially when walking without templeguard! 10 guards would be enough i think! Cowboy with great weapon is nice, but Str 6 is enough mostly! think about the set-up: Sword of might, charmed shield, dawnstone, CO, light armour 4 attacks (at initiative) with str 6 instead of ASL with one strength more! only a few points more expensive!
Thanks guys for some really good info... I can take only 375 on Slann for this game type and was thinking of taking the advice for the wandering deliberation. For 375 I can take Wandering Deliberation and harmonic with channelling staff ?????? I will also drop the priest and skinks to gain 12 temple guard with musician and bearer. As for the cowboy, would sword of striking not be better and drop helm for charmed shield??? If so that leaves me 10 pts. maybe banner for temple guard????? Again thanks guys
Also I do have other models... Stegadon and Gor rok Just trying to keep the points down for my first game with Slann as this is what is really new to me....
great list. just the right amount of blocks + chaff. if you can use your skinks effectively and not totally fluff magic rolls you'll do well. certain match ups will really give you a hard time, but meh/shrug. it happens. just slann the shit out of everything. as mentioned drop the shield tho, already at 1+!
Right guys here it is....Final list for Saturday. I've had to paly around with my cowboy to make it all work.. Slann Wandering deliberations, Harmonic convergence, Channelling Staff Scar Vet CO, LA, Sword of Striking, Dragonhelm 20 Saurus Warriors shield, Spear, musician, Bearer 10 skinks skirmishers Jav and Shield 10 skinks skirmishers Jav and Shield 14 Temple Guard Musician, Bearer 6 Chameleons Bastiladon Solar Engine 1 salamander Extra Handler 1 salamander Extra Handler Again Thanks.
14 temple guard seems like a waste to me but /shrug maybe i'm wrong. just seems like a 200 point bunker, nothing more nothing less. you wont want to get it into combat unless you're able to pick and choose the combat very carefully, and on foot its doubtful that you will. 14 temple guard will mince lots of normal infantry but any reasonably sized block of anything decent will chop it up with few issues. leave a unit of skinks hanging around so you can bounce the slann in and out of it if you're worried about cannons. sword of striking is wasted if you don't need the shield in CC. if you're at 1+ without shield in CC than just run a great weapon and get a dawnstone in there. if you don't have the points for a dawnstone luckstone is good in a pinch. 1 up rerollable saves are brokenly good, and a scar vet is going to hit last against anything that matters anyways.
Decisions, decisions, decisions!! Your right on temple guard as it does take up a lot of points to protect my toad. The skink idea was my first plan. And dropping the dawnstone was a bad move to make the temple guard.
How is an effectively 18 unit size TG unit going to be any less effective than 20 Sauruses? You have 1 less static CR which is made up for by more killing power in higher S and WS, 2 less supporting attacks from the Slann which are made up by having extra frontage. The unit costs less, provides a bunker for your Slann, is immunte to psychology, stubborn and causes fear. What's not to like? For the cost of an additional rank of TG for 1 more static CR and a few more ablatives you could have a Salamander.
because to get all those nice special rules the slann has to be in it. you want your slann to be casting, in an 18 unit of tg you risk losing 40% of the unit on a bad miscast. on top of that, if you do get them into combat you run the risk of losing the slann. larger blocks of temple guard are less risky because its unlikely that unit will ever break, and you have enough bodies to absorb a miscast if you have to. if you dont have the slann in them, then they are only moderately more killer than saurus, and are a redundant choice because you already have saurus to do the same thing and you can spend your special points on something else.
