I posted up my first attempt list a few weeks ago. I know its not a optimal list to most people but it was a theme I wanted to try. Basically its as many Stegs as I can get and no Slann, really just wanted to try a lot of the things people dont rate so much anymore and I like the look of I have had a few games with it now against two good players, one running DE and one running OnG with mixed results. The list is now being built for an event now with the only real comp on my army that the saurus unit may only have 30 in it. Anyway after that very long winded start here the list I used for the last game, A win against the OnG: Old Blood, shield, gw, armour of destiny, dragonbane gem, venom of firefly "first time using this build and was quite happy with it, had previously been using the un-hittable combo but this is cheaper and seemed to do a job" Lvl 2, dispel scroll "a caddy really only lvl2 for a hope of a thunderbolt etc, was on Eotg but really didnt like this for the points and cannot fit it in with......" Skink Chief Bsb, charmed shield, flaming sword, dawnstone, ancient steg "now I have not been using lizardmen for long but I have not seen this in other armies. I found the extra re-roll range a nice little bonus and the extra pip of leadership very nice. He did a job on a unit of trolls and is the only flaming attacks in the army. Be reallt interested to here peoples thoughts on this" 30 Saurus, full command "lord in here, the meat of the army and the only combat block" 3 x 10 Skinks, champions, 2 units with javilins "not sure peoples feelings blowpipes v javilins but found these much better all round" 3 Stegadons 5 Camo Skinks "not sure about these, they died quick first game but seemed to take a bit of attention" Ancient Stegadon Its a very in your face army. The OnG I face have 2 lobbas and 2 doomdivers and these really hurt some games when they go all laser-guided. Saurus seem to do a job, running them 6 wide The stegadons in general have mixed results, sometimes they really over achieve and surprise you, at worst they tead to hold most things up. I have found the Giant Bows totally totally garbage...I am walking them up to get shots off and they have only worked once I can remember, maybe forget them and just 12' forward from the start. Any comments welcome, could maybe fit a Salli in instead of the camo skinks?
I like it! I've wanted to run a dinosaur list myself but haven't had a chance to test it out. I find Chameleons are best used in a slightly larger unit, 8 or 10 strong. That said, if you can lose them and fit in a Salamander with an Extra handler, definitely go for it! Those things are handy, with a maximum 30" death range each turn(12" March, 10" Artillery dice, 8" Template.) The extra handler is pretty essential if there's only one of them though, in my opinion. Hope this helps! Love to hear more about how your games go.
Your BSB Can't have Magic Items aside from the Battle Standard. Other than that looks like a Fun list! I just ordered my 2nd Stegadon. Gonna make my first Engine of the Gods.
Cheers for replies. Had first game against a 5 warmachine empire list. Lost bsb to a cannon first turn but once the army got in to things it ended as a large win for the Lizards. @ maazie, Why could the bsb not have magic items? He doesnt have a magical standard so its just the normal item rules? So far its a fun list, but some match ups may kill it
Pretty sure it's just Battle Standard Bearer Rules with the Exception of Slann thats how it is for everyone.
Talk about thunderous charge. I would hate to be the defender. I'm glad you did so well to a cannon heavy list with only 5 chameleons. Makes me think I shouldn't worry about taking them so much. I don't have my book on me so correct me if I am wrong, but I'm pretty sure that the BSB can indeed have magical items as long as the battle standard is not magical. The wording is something like, "If a magical standard is taken by the BSB, no other magic items may be taken by that character."
@ Qupakoco, dont get me wrong the camos took out four of the five warmachines! I think the list needs them, to be honest I would have two lots but the way the list is there is almost no point shaving so I will have to make do with the one unit just.
That is incorrect. Skink and Saurus BSB can be kitted out with magic items as long as they do not carry a magic banner. Slann can carry Magic Banner as well as 100 points of Magical bits. (pg 93 LMB)
Are you able to take special characters? A friend of mine was telling me about a list he faced as vamps. Tehenuian or whatever he is called (The lord Skink Priest) on a EoG and 2 Skink Priest on EoG. + Ancient Steg Said the list was like an auto win against his vamps.
Shink chief build seems legal with a non-magical bsb, How about this build... Skink Chief (Battle Standard Bearer) . . Ancient Stegadon . . Sword of Striking . . Glittering Scales . . Luckstone . . Ironcurse Icon . . Javelin, and Shield. Total Cost: 415 He has +1 to hit and -1 for getting hit, the hole model has a 6+ ward save against war machines, and he get to re-roll a failed armor save (once).
Arli speaks the truth! And a Skink Chief (BSB) on Ancient with Flame Banner gives 4d6 (+2 Javs) Poision/Flaming shots, great for taking down Hydras, Hell Pits and Trolls.
Not true. Flame Banner - All models in unit have Flaming Attacks. Flaming Attacks - pg 69 - last paragraph - Unless otherwise stated, a model with this special rule has both Flaming shooting and Close Combat attacks. Does not work with magic weapon if already wielding one.
I run a 3 steg 2000 point list and it has done really well, this is monsterhammer after all. I wouls say with only 1 unit of camo skinks and no slann you should take the eotg. The 5+ ward can save your bacon, he addds 3 to dispell attempts to help your magic defence. I would also give him the cube.
