Been just over a week, sorry for the late report. 2500pts, 5 games over 2 days. The competition was fantastic and I didn't play a single opponent I wouldn't want to play again. You can find more information at www.tsegaming.com My list Slann, Lore of Light Scroll, obsidian amulet (MR2), Crown of Command Rumination, Higher State, Focus of Mystery, Soul of Stone Scar-Vet, Armor of Destiny, GW Scar-Vet, Ogre Blade, Dragon Helm, LA, SH 2x 29 Saurus Warriors, Full Cmmd. 1 With Spears, 1 HW 2x12 Skink Skirmisher, Blowpipes 8 Cham Skinks Steg with Bow 2x2 salamanders 5 Terradons Finished the Tournament with 75 Battle Points, 1 point behind a good buddy who took 3rd Best General Games to follow
Game 1 Greg Harris, Lizardmen (we played first game at the AlamoGT in November) Greg took Lore of Life, and instead of 2 blocks of saurus he took 2 ancient stegs, 1 with a priest on top. It was a very tough game as he made discard 6's and I did not him, with dwellers I was a little worried. I end up giving him a double charge with a unit of Skrox and a steg that broke a unit before I could break one of his. He won 16-4. Only game of the tournament where I wished I would have taken becalming, but because of the large spells It may be necessary. Game 2 Brad Barley, WoC Brad took 2 units of warriors, 1 with halberds no mark and the Banner of Rage, then one marked Tzeench with HW/SH. A 35 tzeench marauder block with HW/SH, Hellcannon, Slaneesh Giant, 6 Forsaken, and some dogs. We played the corner to corner deployment with 12" between us. I set up a bit back, and he set up right on the line. My chameleons killed the giant in 1 round of shooting, the terradons killed one unit of dogs and the other unit fled off the board. The salamanders spend the whole game just blasting units to pieces. Turn 2 he got off a comet, bottom of 3 it went off at St6 and killed massive amounts of stuff, including my steg. End of turn 6 he only had his BsB left and I had only lost the Steg. I win 18-4 Game 3 Shane Pegram, Ogres His list was big and nasty, also the only time I've faced ogres in 8th. Shane has only been playing since about September I believe and that was his downfall. The scenario was to hold a wall directly in the middle of the board for 250vps, but instead of running headlong across the wall and buffing the units with gut magic he stopped and let my skinks and salamander trash him for 6 turns. Also instead of brining in the gorgers behind his army, he brought them in on his table edge and they got destroyed by chameleon skinks/terradons. Bottom of 6 I charged a unit which fled through one of his units and ended up like 3 inches from chameleon skinks that then charged and ran them down. Charged another unit that I simply murdered, and got the win, 16-5. I basically waited for him to move and when he didn't I made the charges needed to win. Would have played totally different in a friendly game, but was going for best general. Need a couple VP's though. Game 4 Brent Simon, Daemons Now I was terrified of this list. Bloodthirster, 2 tzeench heralds 1 life, 1 death (death guy had wings) big unit of horrors, slaneesh herald with Siren Song, 2 fiends, 18 letters, like 5 units of furies, and 2 6 man flamers. I basically expected him to dwellers/Purple Sun my whole army, but he never cast either spell the whole game and for that I was grateful. Scenario was bonus VP's for holding the building for more than 4 player turns. Turn 1 I moved up a bit, did some wounds on the Thirster with Banishment and skinks, I also put skinks infront of my whole battle line facing backwards so I can't be forced to charge with the Song (he had no clue what I was doing apparently). Turn 2 I move a bit more, rally the cham skinks that had fled a charge and get ready to get blasted. Turn 2b consists of Brent charging, and me fleeing, something like 12 total charges. Nothing got caught or run down (strategically fleeing through units in range of the Slann leadership). The slann did get charged by furies but I figured they couldn't kill him in less than 3 turns (6 combat phases) and by then I could have something there to deal with it. The charges did leave me a flank on the thirster though. Turn 3a I charge the thirster in the flank with a unit of saurus and the Scar-Vet with the 4+ and GW. Magic gets off Pha's Protection and Speed of light, now the thirster hits me on 5's. Figuring on 1 KB, 3 other wounds, save 2 normal and take 3 total, letting me win combat by 3. He had 2 wounds left and I was hoping to make him pop. In shooting I killed the tzeench BSB with death magic, now I feel much better. Combats here and there, but I lost the steg by having him run, and then popped the Thirster on the top of 5. Game ended with a win to me 18-4. I was ecstatic. Game 5 Colton Fowler, HE He is a good buddy of mine, and we didn't think we were in the runnings for anything, little did we know. We decided to screw around, drink so beer and heckle everyone else. At this point I think colton was just 1 point higher in BP than me. Well I ended up winning the coin toss to get the win, and took it 19-5. Well if I would have taken a 20 I would have tied for 3rd General and if he would have taken it with 20 he would have taken 3rd General, instead another buddy of ours took it. His list has 2 big spear units (35ea), 33 PG with 2 characters, a BT, 11 archers and a Star Dragon. Now The way I beat his list is keep the slann close the units, counter charge the dragon and challenge. Tie him up all game that way and my saurus are free to whack on whatever needs to be whacked on. He tries to double charged with the PG and dragon but I always sacrifice the skinks to keep the pg out, then get one spear unit alone with a saurus block and a steg. With my 4 salamanders he has to get into combat or I can literally wipe his units out in shooting. A great tournament, LoneWolf is up next in april. Sorry for the lack of pictures Ill have a camera with me next time and will go into better detail.
