Hey all!, Do ya think you could look over this list? Im having trouble shedding the 52 points off of the list. 1. Slaan Mage -Priest Focus of Mystery The Becalming Cogitation Divining Plaque of Protection Cupped hand of the old one (that name makes me think of so many disturbing things ) =400 2. Skink Priest on EOTG Lvl 2 Dispel Scroll Diadem of Power = 440 3. Saurus Warriors x 20 Spears Full cmd =270 4. Saurus Warriors x 16 Full cmd = 206 5. Skink Skirmishers x 10 Blowpipes = 70 6. Temple Guard x 11 Full cmd = 211 7. Cold One Cavalry x 5 Full cmd = 205 8. Terradon Riders x 3 = 90 9. Salamander Hunting Pack +1 handler = 80 10. Salamander Hunting Pack +1 handler = 80 Total = 2052 (grr) The idea was to have a strong "anvil" in the way of Temple Guard and Saurus w/spears. Then to have the Saurus w/swords etc, Cavs, and Sallies hit em for the counter attack. Got the Skink Skirmishers there for the usual annoying reasons, and Terradon Riders for war machines, archers etc. Got EOTG for good reason, and Slaan in amongst it all. Cheers all! Si
Units of 20 Saurus are a point sink and a liability. Drop em down to 15 Each and there is your points. IMO Dont run the slaan in a unit I dont know why people reverted to doing He is great alone just run him out of rach between the two units or just behind and when your lines engaged pop em round the side and grab a flank and negate ranks. You have never played against a cannon based army have you. Slann need cover from them. Moble reptile cover.
No you obviously havnt.. Slaan = Large target. Cannon shoots everything in its drawn line.... Sticking Slaan in a unit actually amkes him more vunreble to Cannon... If I ran the Slaan I would run him alone... Makes it much harder to pin down.
Yeah Sart you got a good point, i can make the Slaan basically ethereal anyways, so ill drop the TG which would free up sooo much space. I had them in there really for the sacred host rules, unbreakable etc, but i guess im only ever gonna be worried about breaks when im losing combat, and im not planning on losing any! Cheers mate! Si
how is 20 saurus a point sink in anyway? 250 points for H&S with full command 270 points for spears with full command, +4 combat res in general, ile take on your 15 man unit with my 20 point unit see wich wins. most if not all armies (orges and monster armies and detachments not included) run units of at least 20 models why auto be outnumber and lose the +1 rank just to dave that 50 odd points ive seen alot of games at various stores/club/competitions and unless there skirmishers i have yet to see a copitent player use a unit of under 20 15 saurus would make a could flank deterant but as a block to move forward and attack with it isnt strong enough i mean 11 attack of your front rank is enough to put a dent but were only ws3 wich means most of time were on 4+ to hit while this is good it still means that on average only 1/2 you attack will hit and then still need to wound, wo lets say 6 of the 11 attacks hit a unit of about 4 of these would wound with a gobo being t3, so i would about 4 (not to sure what there save is) so you combat res would so far be +1 banner +4 kills +2 ranks so 7 the gobos +3 ranks +1 banner +1 outnumber 5 before they have even attacked, if they have spears depending on who charged that could still be 7 attack coming back at you or 6 if the charge, they only need to kill 2 to equal you, 3 to win by one, and that using a weak unit for example, a block of 20 choas warriors? cant you tell im againt under 20 man units
only thing id say about the army list is drop the cold ones, and add another unit of saurus or skinks, because of how many points spent on your herso the army seems to lack on the troop front
Slann is no longer a large target, niether is the carnosaur Ethreal Will no likely stop dwarf cannons if you face dwarves for most of thier cannons count as magical.
Yeah I guess in that situation id keep him behind some cover and channel him through my priest on steggy.
We randomize which rank a cannon hits and I think thats is an actual rule so in a 5 wide front 3/5 of the time it will not hit a slann. I have had the unit hit but have been lucky on who it hits so far. Though for future battles does look out sir work on a Slann? hiding him and channeling through a skink would be great but only magic missles can be channeled. I think the most any lore has is 2 magic missle spells so if you are taking the standard +1 power dice to each spell and also knowing all the spells only 2 of them max can be channeled and you have your best caster only able to cast the most boring spells and he is depending on another model to do it.
Magic Missles boring? Can't say Burning Gaze, Distillation of Molten Silver and Urannon's Bolt are boring.. but thats just me.. You also hide your Slann to get save closer to targets you want to hit with spells that ain't Missles.. Channeling is only an extra tool.. you take the Priest anyways since you want Portents and the Stegs ward save is nice too.. But to stay on Topic.. I'd say drop Divining plague of Protection.. and instead of 16 Saurus warriors drop it to 15.. but then your still 10 points short.. But maybe this helps already.. WheelR
