Do most people suggest 24 saurus formed 6 across? What about in low point games? I'll be mostly playing against WoC (my boyfriend) who will have an all plate armor army.
Hello, for me the formation usually depends on the gear the saurus are carrying. If they have spears then I usually deploy them 6 wide and if equipped with hw+shield I run them 5 wide to get the extra ranks and possible steadfast. I think spears benefit from wide frontage much more than hand weapons. BR Agrem
Hmm I'd probably think the other way around to Angrem since spears can fight deeper into their unit. Either way, about 24 is the smallest you would want to take. You can get away with smaller in less than 1000 points. 6x4 or 5x5 or 6x5 are good sizes. Against chaos warriors, remember that they are better troops all round than your saurus so you will need support and/or to whittle them down first. Salamanders will be very useful to cut through that plate armour.
Thanks guys! I have a bunch of (unpainted) Lizardmen stuff now, unfortunately no salamanders! I keep reading about them on this forum so I will probably buy some eventually. Right now I have: 1 box saurus 1 box skinks 3 kroxigors 2 box cold one calvary 9 chameoleon skinks stegadon box oxyotl lord kroak (who I plan on using as a slann mage until i get into really high point games) 1 box temple gaurd scar vet w/ battle standard chakax i know they are all very random, but hopefully i can form some sort of plan out of them (while definitely getting another 2 boxes of saurus)

Can you please include Natsu there and make a more understandable comment. Salamanders are not the be all and end all and I know of many who have managed to build very powerful armies without them.
They are great but dont expect thm to demolish entire armies by themselves as some people make it seem they do. They are awesome but misfires, thing rank or filed units (making it easier for them to miss), etc. can really make them not seem that great. They are awesome for their pts but wont always perform to the status of 2x3 auto-includes. (Like Hydras are 2x1 auto-includes for DE when possible.) Personally prefer 2x1 or 2x2 Sallies depending on if I need more pioonts for additional support units.
From what you have here iif you want to go to higher pts i would suggest... -more TG as with just 1 box its probably better just running the slann alone with ethereal -More saurus warrios for sure but you aready have that checked -More regular skinks so you can run 3x kros skink units better -more saurus warriors -A couple salamanders
Thanks for the reply! I have some eBay auctions I'm watching like a hawk so hopefully I will have more Saurus and some sallies too! That's good advice for the temple guards, do you think 20 total to guard a slann will be enough?
When I take TG I prefer groups of 26. However, let me tell you that if you can learn to properly position and guard the Slann then running him solo is the best bet. It saves us A LOT of points for some models that aren't exactly the best choice to take. The main reason for them is that they are good at guarding the Slann and keeping stuff off of him. But proper positioning and proper list making to support the units, you shouldn't need to use any TG at all. But if you like the models and want to spend the $ (just trying to save ya a bit for a slightly more competitive choice) then go for it!
I generally use 20 Temple Guard and they generally do the job. If anything its a good start to have 20 of them for your slann. I go 6x4 with the slann in the middle.
