Hi was wondering if anyone could shed some light on how the Skavenpelt Banner would work if it were took by a Skink Chief BSB in a unit of Skinks and Kroxigor? Firstly based on my readings of some posts it is probably not a great idea to do this as I gather the main use of Skink/Krtox units are to be flankers and as such you dont really want your BSB stuck out on a flank. That aside would it only apply to Skinks in that unit? It doesn't say that in the description, it merely states that the only type of BSB that can take it has to be a Skink. If so does the Frenzy apply to the Kroxigors as well? Would it apply to Saurus if you had the Skink Chief BSB in a unit of Saurus? Or it is just for units consisting solely of Skinks? The background of the Armies Book would suggest to me it is a Skink based item. I'm not asking for an unsportsmanlike advantage or anything like that but if the consensus (or better yet written confirmation from GW or the like) exists allowing it then that might make for a nice unit! Hope to hear your thoughts and opinions,
Yes only a skink chief can hold the banner, Kroxigors, since they lost their great reach rule have they only have ttheir 3 suporting attacks, while still in the second row. the skink chief may join any unit, units move at the speed of the slowest member, your frenzied chief might be forced to charge out of a uit that doesn't move as fast as he does. (saurus wariors) and he grants frenzy to whatever unit he joins.
Yeah good point. I guess your BSB running out of his Saurus unit is probably not a good thing! Cool way to die though! I think the basic Skink/Krox unit with this banner coupled with a Bironas Timewarp would make it a very scary proposition though. If my maths are right even the Skinks would have 3 attacks and even the Krox would always strike first! Coupled with a 20" charge(24" if movement stat is allowed over 10"(not sure?)) could be a very nasty surprise for an opponent. I might have stumbled upon a nice little idea, or I might seem stupid as it's something you guys do all the time. Who know's, I'm still new, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Cheers
My thought is to add a Flaming Banner to a unit of 50 skinks deployed 25 wide. That means 50 shots on a stand to shoot with flaming attacks means any large monster is dead.
I'm playing around with the idea of a skink shief BSB with the skavenpelt banner in a Saurus unit, either regular or TG. I'm leaning towards TG because then you can get the War Banner for the TG standard bearer, reducing the chance of losing frenzy, not to mention bonus S for halberds. Throw in an Oldblood with Maiming Shield and Ogre Sword and you have a pretty hard hitting unit with loads of attacks. What do you guys think?
Sounds good, you should keep the skink chief out of combat when possible. Stick a slann in that unit as well and it could be a really hard hitting unit (lots of points though).
Cool idea but sadly not possible. Skrox is a "Unique" troop type (mentioned in the LM FAQ), which means they can't be joined by any characters. If you are just playing friendly games you can just ask your opponent if its okay anyway, but I guess that would mean you should let them be stomped/thunder stomped as well. Edit: responded in other thread.
I disagree. It doesn't say anywhere in the rulebook that characters cannot join "Unique" type units. The rules state that a character is normally permitted to join units of infantry, beasts, calvary, monstrous infantry, monstrous beasts, or monstrous cavalary. True that unique is not listed there. The rules however also state that characters cannot join units of monsters, flyers, chariots, swarms, or war machines. Unique isn't listed there either. The rulebook addresses "Unique" units by saying that all of their particulars will be addressed in your individual army's rulebook. The LM army book doesn't say anything specifically about a character joining a skrox unit. So far we are neutral on the issue at worst. There are a couple more things to consider. Skrox are made up of infantry and monstrous infantry. Both of which are unit types that characters can join. You cannot stomp/thunderstomp skrox because they are not wholly comprised of infantry, but they are wholly comprised of unit types that you can join with a character. The second thing is that kroxigor are technically an upgrade to a regiment of skinks which changes their unit type and adds in one big model for every at least 8. Characters have no problem joining skink units, so really they are just joining an upgraded skink unit. I say putting a skink chief in with a skrox unit is 100% legitimate.
It would be pretty pointless to add the BSB to a SKrox unit. The punch of the unit comes from the Krox, and they don't get any more attacks from the banner because of the supporting attacks rule. All that for +1 attack to skinks? No thanks. Now maybe if you joined him to an independent unit of Krox, but that would be crazy on a lot of levels. Pyre
