hi all im sure its been done before but i have a friendly tournament coming up in a couple of weeks and im thinking of taking a full skink list, would have a skink chief on ancient steg maybe another chief on foot or a horned one. A couple of skink priests one of which maybe on a terradon (i think thats allowed) dont have book on me and then a few skrox units some chameleons and a couple of units of skirmishers then probably a couple of salamanders. I am not a very competitive player and its more about enjoying the game for me but at the same time i dont want to be swept aside in 2 rounds either. Will this sort of list be at all competitive or do you think i will get destroyed. Apologies for the grammar im very tired.
3 games at 1500 points then the week after at 2000. i am wanting to get away from the predictable set up of slann with lore of life, i know its by far the most powerful lore for us but quite like the though of not taking a slann. I wish they had a skink lord option that would be great.
Hmmm, Level 2 on a stegadon with the plaque of tepok, maybe a decent ward save, 2 units of 3 krox 30 skinks, 2 units of 8 chameleon skinks 2 units of 2 sallys, And an steg Skirmishing skinks to taste That should be around 1500 or so, Maybe a tad over. Then i'd through tenehuin in for the 2 k game, Idealy on a steg, but you can't in a 2 k game, In another unit of skrox. You could swop the engine of the gods for a warspear chief and a level 1 on foot Edited for more realistic points values
i like that list thanks for thaking the time to give me the advice, very similar to what i was thinking myself, im definately going to go down this route just for the fun of it more than anything else. I would imagine there wont be too manby lizardmen players at a tournament not taking a slann so at least im not taking the same old slann - life combo. The lack of an anchor unit like the saurus might be a bit of an issue for me but we will see. just had a thought, could i field my skink chief general on a horned one in a unit of skrox, this way he would get cold one attacks and the extra save, not something ive ever seen done which draws me to it even more.
No lookout sir if he's on a mount though, Still, chief with light armour, cold one and hw/s looks tasty, Though on a terra don with a bsb might serve you better
just got home and read my book, main issue i can find is that chief cant ride a cold one so would have to pay 35 points from his magic items allowance to take a horned one. still might work but it just means hes not going to have much else in the way of abilities. might be better on a terradon as you say and then stacked with 50 points of magic items. beginging to think its almost worth taking a slann and having him leading a skink horde but i guess i will have to decide wether the theme of a skink only list ios more important than a decent general.
then take the lore of death. there were some good posts in the forum on it lately. I don't think you stand a chance with just skinks and no Slann in 2K.
If you're intent on a skin only army (I've got a 1000pt skink vs 3000pt Chaos Warrior battle this weekend myself; a scouting/disruption mission as part of a 2-game scenario - I'll post a battle report of it cos it should be interesting...) Anyway, if you're intent on a 2000pt skink army then there's a case to be made for some special characters. Namely Tehenhauin and Tetto'eko. Tehenhauin gives you access to Lore of Beasts. And although you have worse than even odds of getting the Uber transformation spell, it still has some nice buff spells in it and is a nice change from Heavens. He can also be mounted on an EoTG, although I think the transformation spell is for models on foot only? Tetto'eko gives you access to all the spells from lore of heavens (he has Loremaster special rule) and his re-deployment ability is kind of useful on some missions. I wouldn't recommend Tiktaq'to. You can build a much better killing machine with a chief on Terradon with Staff of Lost Sun and bane head for 1/2 the points. And Oxyotl is just a big waste of points imo.
if you really want a chief you could jsut deploy him on foot with a mounted unit. the unit loses 3M and swift stride, otherwise it really doesn't matter, with the 8th ed rules the difference between COC and saurus is 3" and swiftstride when charging. if you want the improved armour save tough.... you want a horned one, allltough the new magic armours are quite nice
