So I have plunged into the whole scales, clubs and jungle thing and has bought some seoond hand models.. however as part of my deal, I got about'ish 150 skinks with bows. What do you guys recommend, convert the bows to blowpipes or leave them be and just let the opponents know if on this particular day they stand in for blowpipes or javelins?
Well it depends on who you play, but most WHFB players are a pretty relaxed bunch. You can convert the skinks, but it takes a lot of carving, I am in the process of converting a bunch into cohorts.
Cohorts would probably be your best use of them, as the short bows can easily represent javelins, and will be less confusing for your opponents to remember throughout the game. That said, most opponents would not mind you using them as skirmishers of any flavor.
Most people don't care at all, I used to use my old skinks with bows and no one cared I just told everyone before the game they actually had blow pipes!!! But I also kept it simple and used all my skinks with blow pipes so there was no question! So recently I converted a bunch of the old bow armed skinks into both types of skinks, I used green stuff for the tip of the blow pipes and just cut the tip off the bow off where it curves. For the javelin skinks I chopped off the top of some extra spears I had and used the extra javelins I had from a box of new skinks, then broke the bow off and attached it... Honestly they look ok not great but I'm a cheap o and I have a million models so I figured why not play around!! But next to a box of new skinks I bought they just don't look as natural with the new weapons in there hands.
i think in a tournament setting you need 50%+1 models in the unit to be armed with the weapons written in your army list, otherwise discuss it with your opponents, i don't think any will mind as long as its clear, and since there are no ckinks with bows anymore, that problem should dissapear aftera few games
Cohorts? It seems a little silly to convert 150 skinks with bows only to find that GW in the next army book removes javelins and re-introduces bows or something ;-) I was thinking that maybe I should have 15-30 separate blowpipes and javelins and some stickytack and just put them on the backs of some of the front ranks when I play so the opponent always know what they are designated for. I do see a problem with tournaments though..
Well we just got a new book last year so it will be like 4 or 5 years until we get a new one... Either way no one is forcing you to convert anything if you don't want to.
Equip your front rank with javelins and tell your opponent they're all javelins, plus I assume you will be using kroxigors with them most of the time so everyone will be looking at them anyway!!!!
