Okay, so I have an awesome Skink Chief riding on a giant dodo style bird for the cool factor, does anyone have suggestions how I should arm him so he's not totally useless? The current model already has hw and shield, but I'm sure I can change that.
I've been toying around with a thought, although it may or may not be legal, depending how you read the lizardmen faq (is Horned one a magic item or not). But I'll say it anyway. Make your chief be the bsb and give him the skavenpelt banner. Then put him in a COC unit with FC. Then add two saurus characters in there, so that skink cheif can go to the second row. Now you have a unit with two really strong characters on a mount and with frenzy, so a scar vet would hit 5 times and your oldblood 6 times (or more with magical weapons) and the command group would hit 10 times, and additional 5 attacks from second rank. With two scar vets in the unit its 25 attacks or with two oldbloods 27 attacks (depending on saurus characters gear). And thats not counting cold ones yet! When charging all thous attacks will be at str 5 or more (if you give your skink chief a spear). The bad side of this the price. Taking a oldblood and a scar vet on a cold one with only light armor and shield, skink chief bsb on horned one with skavenpelt banner, light armor, shield and spear, and a unit of 10 COC with FC, it cost 852 points! Add to that is 100 points magical items for oldblood and 50 for scarvet plus magical banner for COC standard bearer, it becomes quite expensive. Not the most ideal thing to do but it's fun to think what kind of damage that unit would do ^^
... you have a devious mind! I was thinking maybe I'd just stick the Bane Head on him or something and try to go Wizard hunting for lulz. Which wouldn't be super effective I guess.
that seems like a fun unit to run. I took a krox horde death star last game and it worked well. but costs 990 points. I think the CoC might be more fun and more manuervable since they have swiftstride
Can anyone give me a refresher on how a Cav hero works in an Inf block? I know it'd be a waste of points, but I could attach the Chief on HO onto a Skink cohort for rule-of-cool. Could also stick him in a CoC unit as well for the lulz.
if he is the same base size, he displaces models and fills in ranks normally. If he can't fit in rank and file, then he has to go on the outside of the unit. characters, even on mounts, have to go in the front with command group as normal, unless they wont fit. then they go int he 2nd rank. If the character in the unit is a different type (mounted on a CO becomes cavalry) he loses his look out sir.
