    Hi all

just a quick question and need peoples personal views, this may of been dicussed in previous topics?!?

ive only played a few games and up to now, but my stegadons have literally ripped armies in half!!
In my last game i charged my stegadon with bow into one unit, killed all but a few, ran them down....and another unit, when we added up the scores, that stegadon in one turn killed over 800 points!!!!

but anyway.... i really wanted to know if anyone here has taken a stegadon with the skink chief WITH the "stegadon war-spear"?? if sooooooo........
    how effective was it??
    did it do well??
did you chose the stegadon or ancient?
    which do you advise?

also if i choose this hero with war-spear.....can the stegadon still use the bow??
AND can you use the hero's ballistic skill??
my friends collects khorne, dark elves and skaven

if i do decide to choose this hero on mount, i know it could come to alot of points, but i need it to tear up high numbered units

    thankyou for reading

    Yes.

Lizardmen rule book pg 55, Skink Crew: "Stegadons and Ancient Stegadons have a crew of five skins. If taken as a character mount then one of the crew is displaced by the character."

    That leaves 4 normal skinks.

Lizardmen rule book pg 55, Howdah Weapons: "It takes two crew to fire the giant bow or one for each giant blow pipe."

So long as you have 2 or more crew alive you can fire the Giant bow.

    No.

7th Edition Lizardman FAQ/Errata pg 2: "Q. Are Stegadon weapons considered war
machines for the purposes of stand and shoot or using a character's BS? A. It’s definitely best to treat it as a war machine, so no stand and shoot, no using a character’s BS, and so on."

Yeah the warspear is very effective, impact hits are really strong. And don't forget it also counts as a lance so on the charge that chief gets +2 strength.

What do you currently run him with though? With such success you might be best off sticking with what you already have working well. And keep in mind that stegadons are usually the opponent's first target to shoot or magic, especially now that your opponents have seen what it is capable of, you will find it cops a lot of damage before combat.

Its +2 strength on the charge is it not?
Stegs can only be as good as their support. Something to keep in mind.

Absolutely right, strength not attacks. I had a small brain fade. :p Edited it.

If you decide to take the War-Spear, definitely mount him on an Ancient; 2 simple reasons.

    1) the extra strength of the Ancient means that his impact hits will also be at S6, a huge difference compared to the S5 of the normal Steg

    2) the boost from a 3+ Armour Save to a 2+ Armour Save. The Chief is only T3 so needs all the protection he can get ;)

I have had experience playing with this fella, and he absolutely rocks. He is the ultimate hammer. Averaging at 8S6 impact hits and then getting an additional 3S6 attacks from the Chief and another 3S6 attacks from the Steg, not to be sniffed at. ;) Just make sure you get the charge!! :)

only tried this combo once and in all my wisdom i charged a unit of black guard with a master in it.... the champion and the master ate my steg before i could use any attack other than impact hits.... ASF sucks!

That sounds like a lot of hard luck to me :shifty: the Champion is wounding the Steg on 6's and the Master only has 3 attacks...
