As I am new to lizardmen, I am starting the army next week, I am thinking of taking the skink chieftan on ancient stegadon with the horn that gives you 2d6 impact hits. A lot of people have been going on about the stegadon being useless in 8th edition. The stegadon can put out up to 13 strength 6 hits then attack and finish it off with a huge thunderstomp. Is this not viable in the 8th edition or is the stegadon's problem over-estimated.
You know, a lot of people are talking about what will be good and what won't be good but this is all just 'Theoryhammer' as no one really CAN know for sure Really you just have to play test it yourself! They say it won't be as good because we are now talking about larger units in the game which would mean lots of being tied up in combat but I say well, if its a terror causer then what happens if by itself it forces a 40+ unit to skimper off the board holding their hands over their faces in fright? All units, even though others will argue, have their own personal uses.. You have to figure them out for yourself if you want to field something.. And that Lance that gives +d6 impact hits.. Its freaking awesome!
It's worth giving a shot in 8th edition, because of random charges now you might be able to get more charges off and take advantage of the impact hits.
Its always a question of whether he is worth his points, not if he is "good" or "bad". He is totally awesome, clearly. He just may be a bit over priced for what he can do now. I would say you might see some people putting a chief on Steg with the battle standard, because then its range is 18" instead of 12". Also imagine how sweet of a show piece you could make something like this.
