8th Ed. skink chiefies

    Ok so ive started running a lone skink chief just hiding behind my saurus as a lone guy to help with PF or to act as a speedbump. But after he kills 2halberdiers 2orcs and even a grail knight im wondering if i should add some stuff on with his 50magic item points or give him a small group of skinks to use as a flanker unit? What are your your guys opinions? What have you done with ur chiefs?

    Ive been running a guy like this a couple of games and enjoyed it:

    Skink Cheif
    - Terradon
    - Stegadonhelmet
    - LA
    - Shield
    - Spear + Pigeon Plucker pendant
    OR
    - biting blade for ethereals

    had my fun with this guy so far! need to swing him a bit more.

    I have a feeling you cant use light armour with the stegadon helmet. even thhough it sounds logical.
    regard the magic armour stuff p.502

    of course you can.

    it needs to be classified "armour" in the magic items description to take the "armour suit slot".

    example: you cant have both "Glittering Scales" and mundane "armour" , as Glittering Scales has "light armour" in its rules and thereby takes that slot. Same for mundane and magic shields: only one of the type.

    The stega helm dosnt have any "type" so it dosnt conflict with anything.

    In a predominantly skink list I was toying with, I came up with:

    SKink Chief BSB, Helm of Itza, Biting Blade, Lt Armor, Shield. 119 pts.

    Put him in a unit of Skrox. I even have an old metal model that exactly matches the build. Might be fun to spring the little guy doing impact hits on a unit champ or even another hero.

    Impact hits come before challenges unfortunately.

    I think skink chief with egg of quango is great fun, fluffs every now and then but can turn your opponents character into a little smear on ghe ground if it comes off well. 'I take your ASF and raise you 12 s5 automatic hits before you attack'.

    You know, I KNEW that and still could not get it straight in my brain. Old age, I guess. As much as I use chariots in my WoC and Beastmen lists, it should have been instinctive.

    But yeah, with an average of 7 hits of S5 you can easily kill a character unexpected.

    also impact hits are distributed as per shooting as well. so cant knock out a hero in a unit.

    Sacred Stegadon Helm Of Itza is a Magic Armour. sadly, thus indeed taking the slot.

    Yes, it takes the "magic armour" slot, but it doesn't take the "heavy/light armour" slot or the "shield" slot, therefore you can combine it with light armour and shield !

    Yeah. Got to really looking at builds for this guy. So I also came up with mounting him on a Ripperdactyl (take away BSB), and now you have a pretty awesome warmachine hunter and chaff clearer. Plus start him behind a couple of stegs/bastis/carnos and he cant see or be seen the first turn. He also then makes a nice flank/rear attacker.

    "A model can only have one suit of armour and one shield, so if you give a model a magical suit of armour or a magical shield, it replaces any mundane equivalent already worn by the model"

    so no magic armour and light armour combinations

    There is the one build I'm interested in trying.

    24 skinks, 3 kroxigor, FC and this chief.

    Light Armor, Javelin, Shield, Potion of Strength, Sword of Striking or the one that gives +1 A if you can buff your weapon skill.

    Block the path of the heavy cavalry or monster to force them to charge, quaff the potion of strength on their turn. BS5 S7 stand and shoot will often do a wound, and then you morph into an I6 kroxigor for a turn and do more damage. Have your Brave take the challenge.

    The surviving knights kill a kroxigor or the chief and then the survivors finish off the unit with the skinks providing CR.

    It is not a suit of armor, it is a helmet. "Magic Armor" does not have the same rules meaning as "suit of armor." For example, the Enchanted Shield counts as "Magic Armor," but clearly is not a suit of armor. The same is true of the Dragonhelm, and a variety of other defensive items in the game.

    It's really rather simple if you categorize the magical items.

    Five Slots

    Weapon
    Armor
    Enchanted
    Talisman
    Arcane for wizards

    You get one selection in each category, period.

    Within armor there are three slots

    Body
    Shield
    Helmet

    If you take a magical ____ and already have ___, the mundane item shuts off. No taking armor of destiny and light armor at the same time. This is a bigger issues for other armies which come with heavy armor standard instead of scaly skin.

    This means that light armor, shield, dragonhelm is a legal cheap way to get +3 armor on a ScarVet, but once you take Enchanted Shield the helmet is no longer available because we can't get them in mundane versions.

    as i read it, you are only eligible to take a shield and an armour.
    enchanted shield says it is a shield and gamblers armour is a heavy armour. both light armour and stegadonhelm are armour so they cant be taken together. a regular medieval light armour (and also heavy armour) includes the part which covers the head as well ( so no extra helms there?).

    i think we are bending the definition of a suit. i understand what you mean by it, but its a very slippery slope where do we stop from defining where does a suit stop. how i see it both the RAW and RAI mean you can only have one armour and one shield. Is this kind of thing really allowed say in tournament plays?

    if we go crazy with the suit of armour sentence we can go putting light armour on top of heavy armour, which can be armour of destiny, get a dragon helm in there, get an armour of silvered steel with it too cos it doesnt say what kind of armour it is so we can say they are gloves. i wish theyd have greaves here to give me that one higher save. ofcourse we get a shield here too.

    also does it state somewhere specifically that you can take a helm, armour x and a shield? What i mean is, is there a definition of a suit or armour somewhere :f

    Why are we arguing this?

    Dragonhelm states that you can combine it with other kind of armour like mundane shield and light/heavy armour. Same as the two other helms in BRB.

    If I am not wrong, Lizardmen Sacred Stegadon Helm, says the same.

    As for other armies like WoC you have another example.
