Skink Conga Line So I heard about screening troops with skinks but didn’t see how to do it well. My skirmishers got in my own way as much as the enemies. Then I saw another player playing Lizardmen put me to shame. Lets say you got a unit of enemies, something fast that gets a bonus on the charge you don’t want to charge your Saurus blocks (like knights or ogres). Put a line of skinks in front. E E E E E s s s s s s s s s s SSSSSS SSSSSS Get the skinks close enough that the enemies have no choice but to charge, so the charge. The skinks flee and if you judged your distances right the Skinks are right in front of your Saurus and the enemies are just behind them. E E E E E s s s s s s s s s s SSSSSS SSSSSS I never knew what to do with the skinks, until now. If they rally they end up preventing the Saurus from charging. Time for the Skinks to form a Conga line, a vertical line in forward facing ranks of one, between the two Saurus blocks. E E E E E ------------s ------------s SSSSSS s SSSSSS ------------s ------------s ------------s ------------s ------------s ------------s ------------s Saurus charge the enemies unimpeded by the skinks, let the pummeling begin! E E E E E SSSSSS SSSSSS ------------s ------------s ------------s ------------s Skirmishers can reform at will, so after the screening is done, the skinks can reform into a regular formation and resume their normal skirmishing duties of harassing things with poison shots. EDIT: I had to put the dashes is in to help me line up the little s correctly.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 the skinks can not reform if they are fleeing, and the charge phase comes before the rally phase.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 also they can't reform between the 2 saurus blocks if they have to move closer than 1 inch to either. So this could only work if the 2 saurus blocks are nearly 3inch's apart and then they probably can't both contact the enemy unit on the charge.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 The second comment I knew, the first slipped my mind. I guess now that I think of it when I saw the conga line the first time the Saurus didn't charge, they just enjoyed the benefits of a skink missile screen and delaying the enemy wiht one weak charge.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 Got all excited till I read the debunking posts I don't find them hugely useful either. You can use them to force the enemy when they charge to line up at a strange angle creating an exposed flank. But when if you flee before they can redirect, or if you flee after you lose combat they can opt to not persue and reform. **If you can get him to charge you in the woods you'll lose combat but you'll be stubborn
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 Off topic i find it odd that you don't find skinks very useful. Maybe i misunderstand, but i've always liked the quote in your signature, and assumed you a big skink player and figured you overvalued their usefulness.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 Sorry I guess I should be more specific. I love chamo skinks and I love Skrox units (especially for a swift reform for a massive volley) Skink Skirmishers is what I'm not in love with.
Re: Skink Conga Line, Advancing Screening 101 Eladimir, can you be more explicit about why (maybe on another post) ? And what about rank & file skinks by 10?
