Hi guys I'm new to lizards in all their glorious forms and am looking for some advice so any would be appreciated! I'm looking at doing a couple of skink heavy lists - initially at 1k for a doubles competition and then growing to 2k and beyond. Skinks appeal for several reasons - they are cool, love the kit and the only other lizardmen armies I've seen and played have revolved around an unbreakable temple guard unit with blocks of saurus and the only skinks seen have been of the chameleon variety so I want to put down a very different style of army with units that aren't often seen among my usual group of friends who I game with. I think it would be cool to add a bit of variety! I also have some ideas for paint schemes etc to make it a good modelling and painting project for me. My original idea for the 1k list was to have Tetto'eko, two units of skinks with kroxigors and a couple of razordons, and for larger point games add more blocks of skinks with kroxigors and some of the big gribblies. The 1k list is to be paired with an all mounted empire list with knights and demigryphs. My issue is are skink cohorts with kroxigor usable? And if so how do you suggest I get the best out of them? From speaking to people around my area there doesn't seem to be much love towards these guys and the advice I've been getting from a competitive point of view is to pay the extra points to get saurus in and not bother with kroxigors. Surely there has got to be some decent tactical options to use these? What do you think I am missing? Any help, advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated. SNN.
Short answer....yes skinks can work. You NEED big gribblies eventually as the little guys can do little aside from harass on thier own. Chamo skins are one of our best war machine hunters, but the nice thing about a skink jeavy list is almost everything is fast enough to fill that role. Have some nay say-ers to the cohorts eh? well roll up in his face with i nice 2-3 krox unit, wysanns em and get 2 rounds of str 4 shots before clobbering time. Ld 7 on the krox and ranks of skinks will keep em around so i love this unit. Aside from advising to get some winged warriors of either sort all i can say is realize that any list can be viable, just play to the strengths, which for skinks are speed and manuverable precise hits
Remember, if a monster has skinks on its back, it definitely fits the fluff of an all-skink army! Also if the model has skink handlers, like salamanders.
