In the army book it notes that a horned one can be taken for skink and saurus heroes. Does this mean I can mount a Skink Chief on a horned one? Or was this errata'd somewhere and I missed it? I have some interesting ideas for a mounted blowpipe skink chief...
makes no sense to give him the horned one. if u want to make him more mobile, give him the cloak of feathers, which gives him flying, which means MUCH better mobility and u save 10 pts at the same time. or give him a terradon and you will keep the space for magic items. even the terradon is cheaper by 5 pts than the horned one.
Yep it's entirely posible, but it takes up a lot of his item allowence. Ps. the horned one will give you better armor and causes fear, I supose that would be woth 10 points ?
Oh I know it wouldn't be overly effective, but I still thought it would be a fun character to play around with. The option just isn't listed as a mount option for a skink chief. Feasibly, could a skink priest also be mounted on a horned one?
It isn't classed as a mount because it counts as a magic item. So you could give it to a skink chief or priest, but you'd only have 20pts left of magic items to choose from.
I gave it to a Skink BSB to make him a little more survivable and maneurvable. That is probably then only time I would use the item.
i was toying with the idea of a priest using it for channeling. I suppose a 5+ armor save isnt terrible significant on survivability of a two wound model. too bad we cant have horned one riding units of skink chiefs. On that line though, could we not have a unit consisting all or at least half of terradon riding skink chiefs? that'd be some elite cavalry right there...new topic pls
Unfortunately I beleive by the wording under terradons they are allowed to join units of terradons, therefore they are exempt from the rule that doesnt allow flying characters to join units. The real kicker is that due to percentages in army composition there can easily be 4 or 5 skink cheifs with spears or add hw and they can drop rocks and use the terradon unit as a wound buffer. Makes me think of Tau Crisis suits lol
As far as skink on horned one, if he has a spear or an extra hand weapon, some venom of the fff, some nice armor...There is probably also some other nice ten point armor peice or trinket that can help him survive and maybe even break some light infantry or skirmishers on the flank/rear charge. no more unit strength means he can even deny ranks , contest table quarters and march block if I'm not mistaken
On the other hand, how much would it be worth to have the skink harrassing the enemy alone with a javelin or blowpipe? Since the ranged abilities cant be enhanced by the staff of the lost sun due to points, it may as well be a saurus on the horned one if points or theme arent in the way. and if you have enough room it could be an oldblood that wouldnt cost 400 points on a carnie and wouldnt hafta b stupid, then he can have some interesting kit.
that is not correct. u need to have a unit of at least 5 wide with 2 ranks attacking the flank/rear to cause disruption (cancel rank bonus)
So... I could deck out 5 skink chief's with horned ones and have fast cavalry that's totally overpriced and totally found under the "White Elephant" section of potential units?
YEA ..... Except only one could be one on horned one since it comes from the magic item allowence. But you could have a bunch on terradons, stegadons (in large games) or just on foot.
