How would you load out a priest? what I mostly do is upgrade to level 2 and give it plague of topok and I. grubs is this a good loudout or a complete waste of time?
A good load out but an illegal one! A wizard can only ever take one arcane item and both of them are arcane do he couldn't have both I usually have three distinct types of skink priests I run: The support caddy: If I am running dual slann, I have minimal dice for a skink and no points allowance for the slann, therefore my priest is expected to carry my magical items but not cast spells so: Lv1 and dispell scroll and curse charm of tepok The skink spam: If I am running one tooled up slann, I often spam skink priest with two or three to give me some magical support. In this case I will have an offensive skink priest who skirmishers in the flanks Lvl1 ruby ring of ruin dispell scroll I will have a backup caster who sits behind the line in a bunker Lvl2 and plaque of tepok and maybe statuette of spite And maybe a third in the middle, hangs back but might get stuck in if required So maybe Lvl 2 and cube of darkness Finally The pseudo Lord skink priest Maybe if I running a minimal slann or maybe slann free old blood list I will take a pseudo level 3 skink to be a major caster, in this case he will be An engine of the gods, Lvl2, plaque of tepok and a one use ward save like The amulet of itzl to dodge the first cannon ball!
how do you get a level 3 priest? in the book it says only up to level 2. New load out level 2(or 3) cloak of feathers plague of tepid seed of rebirth
When a skink priest rides the Engineof the Gods, it generates the power dice and the dispel dice of a Wizard one level higher. So a level 2 wizard becomes a sorta-Level 3.
I like to bring a sacrificial Skink Priest with teh Forbidden Rod to give me a good magic phase even if I roll a poor winds of magic. A Skink is a small price to pay for that. Also when I play Fire Slann I like to bring a pair of Skink priests to provide useful vassals for magic missiles.
Thanks to Scalenex for pointing out the sacrificial forbidden rod priest, I forgot about that one, that is also a very viable build Yeah a skink priest can't be a level 3 only a level 2, However if a skink priest rides an engine of the gods he gets an additional +1 to cast and to dispell (it was changed in the FAQ to this because you no longer generate dice according to your level, that is the 7th ed) Also if you take the plaque of tepok you have one more spell So that's +3 to cast +3 to dispell and 3 spells....so the skink priest looks like a level 3 but it is only officially a level 2 and the bonuses conveyed upon it make him look like a level 3 hence the use of the phrase "pseudo level 3" because he isn't really a level 3 but acts like one in most senses (for example if he was hit Sivejers Hex Scroll he would need to roll 2 or 1 to survive because officially he is only a level 2)
Even if I am running with a Slann, I always bring atleast two Skink Priests. They are very cheap, can carry around a Dispel Scroll or Cube of Darkness and give you a chance at extra channels for a reasonable cost. 65 Points base cost is amazing for Skink Priests in my opinion. .... I still have yet to get my Engine of the Gods into a good game though, need to use it again soon.
For me they almost always exist soley as a scroll caddy but occasionally I'll use them to cast iceshard blizzard in the first couple turns.
