Hey all. I am currently jigging and re-jigging my list and some things are causing me issues. Firstly I am considering not even bothering with normal Skink skirmishers in my Saurus-heavy army and just going 2 x 8 Chameleon Skinks for their mobility and resilience to fire. Are Skinks worth it now? Also, I am considering dropping my Scar-Vet and jigging a few more points around to get a baby Steg. It;s make a nice centrepiece to the list and give me a big beastie to play with. Any thoughts?
I think skirmishers are still viable in this edition. Just because they can march and shoot, they are worth the points. The stegadon makes a huge target on the board. Just plan for that and you should be ok.
Not sure how many scar-vets you have but I'd run at least 1. Skirmishers are most definitely still useful, with the ability to march and shoot, plus being steadfast in forest, not to mention they can redirect so much better now. I find them to be extremely useful. I also find cohorts to be great now as well, 10 wide to throw 20 poisoned javelins, or reform to be 5x4 and take a charge or hold something up for a bit.
In a list where points are tight and I want to be efficient, is it okay to take Chameleons over Skirmishers?
Most definately! The chameleons are good now too. They get -1 (to be hit) for being skirmishers and an additional -1 for being chameleons. You start them 12 inches from your target in or out of cover (cover means at least an additional -1). In a game versus skaven, I put them 12 inches away from a ratling gun. I lost one chameleon and then the gun exploded. They were well worth the points (70 or so).
