I have seen these from time to time in pictures, basically a solid flat of something with small squares cut out for the skirmishers to slide in to. Does anyone use these? I am commonly stretching my movement to the max and am putting my skirmishers in weird arse positions, but I feel this would really speed up game play in the beginning, not to mention leave me a template of where I started from for those awkward movement phases when you go toe to back with your opponent. As far as making them, I was thinking of getting two wood plys and laser cutting out the squares from one and gluing them together. What is your method for creating these sorts of trays if you use them. And finally, is there generally interest in stuff like this? I know that laser cutters are not easy to get a hold of, I am just lucky that my GF has one available to her at her college.
your idea is pretty much what the standard is. you can also buy them pre-cut from many places. s far as practicality goes, I'd say they're great and there's no situation they wouldn't be good in. Skirmishers still need to be ranked up loosely so the tray is always going to be handy
I stopped using them and turned to magnetic sheets instead. Skinks sit tighter are still able to be put in weird formations
not a bad idea actually However i'd like the cut trays because that means i can terrain/base those mofo's up!
I use the movement tray set from GW; the ones which you can construct to your own sizes. I then cut half inch strips and glue them onto the movement tray. It's a lot of work honestly. You get however a consistent movement tray-look throughout your army. Would I have a lasercutter, I would definitely doing it your way though...
hello! if it helps i generally use the GW modular trays, stick a metal sheet over it, mark out the spots where the skirmishers go, and base around those spots to make em look nice, and magnetise the skinks. what your left with is essentially a magnatised skirmisher unit that don't move out of position but still gain the nice basing theme, though one draw back is the weight ever so!
Hmmm... I supose you could make a skirmisher insert that fits into the modulay trays. (tray sized rectangle with base size holes cut out of it, with skirmisher spacing)
