I’m going to play in a 1500 pt tournament this weekend and I am still debating on what to do with my Slann, or if I should even take one. I’m curious what you guys think. I’ve made the heroes of my list very offensive since I couldn't decide on a hammer unit, so my hero points are taken up by two Scar-Vet cowboys coming in at 321/375. This is the Slann build as of right now: Slann Mystery: Life Rumination Diadem of Power Dispell Scroll Comes to 375/375. The idea is that Rumination will make up for the 1 or 2 power dice that I will contribute to my dispel pool. Hopefully I can get Throne of Vines off to get miscast protection since I didn’t take Cupped Hands. I don’t expect the Scar-Vets will need any magical help because of their gear. I am hoping Lore of Life will help keep him and the rest of my army alive while my Scar-Vets and Saurus blocks earn their keep. Being able to buff the Saurus up to T6+ and resurrecting them will help a lot. Plus gaining a wound back for every successful spell sounds like a good deal to me. The rest of my list is going to be Saurus, Skinks, Chameleons, and Sallies. Probably 2 of each if, I have the points for it. I usually use TG, so I am a little uncomfortable with a solo Slann. Thanks for your feedback!
Yeah, if you're gonna go solo Slann is pretty standard to take either the plaque of protection or ethereal (I'm sure you've seen it all over the forums already). Being as powerful and important to your army as he is I wouldn't doubt your opponent will go for the kill straight away, especially if he finds out he has poor protection.
Your scar vet cowboys will kick some ass for sure, but next time try taking one 300 points SV and 3 with only LA and GW (100-115) (maybe frog poison etc or something cheap) Its the stat line that makes SV so amazing.
Yah, good call. I was thinking about buffing up my magical defense and making my army hard to kill rather than making my Slann stay alive. I hope so! These guys should both be able to take a cannon ball to the face and keep on running! I'm not quite sure what you mean by the last part of your post though. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but I think a 300 point SV would be hard (nigh impossible?) to make. Did you just mean take 3 SVs in the 100-115 pt range? I could see that being pretty brutal! Especially if they were mounted to give them a good armor save and decent movement. I haven't submitted an army list yet, so I still have time to mess around with the specifics.
Hello, I'd suggest that you make Your Slann a BSB. For Example Slann 1 dicipline, Plaque of Protection, BSB, Plaque of Tepok. 345/375. You have 5 Spells that should be enough. Allthough I don't know what is the rest of your army so I don't know how to help you further
Thanks for the tips! You guys rock. I love this forum I did a little testing last night with some friends while using the set-up that Ejpok gave. I'm liking it, though I think ethereal will work better for me because I've been seeing a lot of bolt throwers and scouts lately. I rolled for spells about 20 times just to get an idea of what I can do and use. Turns out that I roll at least one double number each time so I can pick and choose the spells that I really need. I figured as long as I get Flesh to Stone, Throne of Vines, Dwellers, and whatever the one that resurrects models is called, I'll be fine. Works out pretty well with 5 dice. Here is what I am going to use for the tournament, though I may ditch javelins on one skink unit and get a magic weapon for the Slann. Slann General BSB Lore of Life Rumination Higher State Plaque of Tepok SV Cold One Sword of Might Opal Amulet Charmed Shield LA SV Cold One GW Dragonhelm Amulet of Itzl VoFFF 24 Saurus w/HW FC 3x10 Skinks w/Javelins 2x5 Chameleons 2x1 Salamanders Total: 1500pts Definitely out of my comfort zone with only one Slann and one unit of Saurus. It should be interesting, to say the least. I'll let you all know how it goes. BTW, Next month I'm going to run a cavalry heavy list! Carnosaur, Terradons, Cold Ones, Steggy. Should be exciting, lol.
I was using Diadem of Power last night. It is great for control with Slann. So I definitely understand you on that. Won 2 games with it last night. =P
Well my tournament got cancelled. Not enough people came out to play. They blamed it on the -8 deg F weather. That's -22 deg C for those of you in other parts of the world. Pretty lame excuse IMO. Try again next weekend.
-8 Degrees.....Kids in Minesotta still have to go to school in that weather! It should not stop a tournement! lol Anyway, maybe they will reschedule the event.
