hey guys, so do i get a prize for being the 100th member? im a new to the lizardmen after playing empire since 6th edition. I can't wait to take beefy lords to the table along with models that are actually fun to paint( maybe the novelty will wear off by giant lizards are a blast compared to humans). I was wondering what ranks people use for slann guard. i bought the batallion so i have access to over 20 saurus but im not sure if i should field 16 or 20? if 20 is better than how do i make the formation in terms of models per rank? oh the saurus will be immune to psychology but i think thats it. i want to keep the one rare slot open for sallies as I will most likely field a 2nd gen. Thanks for any comments in advance!
Well IMO you should try out the lone slann strategy ... That said, there is really no 'perfect' unit size for your slann guard. With Temple guard, the fact that they are stubborn means that you can field a small 11-15 unit and be confident that your slann will survive until help arrives. SW, due to their lack of stubborn, would likely benefit from a US of 16-20 (5x4 or 6x4). Now the difference between these two sizes is negligable. If you are taking Tlazcotl SW, they are not going to flee from outnumbering fear causing troops. As this unit has only M4 w/no fighting heroes, they arnt going to be rambo breaking through your enemies ranks. Instead, they will be an anvil (like any Saurus unit). The only difference is that they are an anvil that cannot afford to be broken. Hence, you may take 20 Saurus to ensure that +1 for outnumbering (giving you a 25 US w/the Slann). The difficulty becomes that the more points you invest in your slann, the more points you feel you have to invest in the unit. The more expensive your unit is (i.e. 16-20 Saurus), the more points are invested to protect them (insert warbanner, etc.) Regardless, any slann guard that has a reliable hold rate will cost you 750+ pts for the unit and slann combined. which brings me to my point...dont build a slann guard unit. If you look at the various threads discussing lone slanns (in both the army list and lizardmen discussion boards), you can look into their merits. Keep in mind that this does not prevent a Slann from joining a SW unit midgame for some mutual protection, but it prevents you from playing games that are always centered around your point sink unit. And yes, you get a fabulous prize for being the 100th member!!! Constructive criticism!
hey that prize is good enough for me! so i should stick him by terrain or maybe take a couple jungle swarm bases to block him if the terrain may be limited? is there anything special that i should equip him with if im going lone slann?
Alright, there are several threads already in existence, so Im going to direct you to them. If you need more information, there are several more threads discussing this topic, in which case you can search for 'lone slann' First, theres a more indepth discussion of the 'ideal slann guard': http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=53&sid=b2798c17774d27d0aca302dd0cd91e4c This is the most recent description of the lone slann's tactics benefits: http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=220&sid=b9c5d1cede22a67f53332a308940ceb4 And, finally, one can find many of the tactical ideas within the strategy in these lists. Most are designed as lone slann lists, others have me simply ranting about its benefits and how to use it : http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=185&sid=b9c5d1cede22a67f53332a308940ceb4 http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic...ne+slann&sid=b9c5d1cede22a67f53332a308940ceb4 http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic...ne+slann&sid=b9c5d1cede22a67f53332a308940ceb4 http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic...ne+slann&sid=b9c5d1cede22a67f53332a308940ceb4
