Hi, I'm going to play a 2000 points tournament with no comp system. I'm not sure to put a slann mage in the list. I ran one in 2250 points for a tournament and he died twice because of misctast (and double 1's om the miscast table) And that's a lot of points. So would you guys take one in a 2000 point list? And if you would, how would you build the rest of the list thnx Tim
Gear it up properly i.e cupped hands, soul of stone (If you are particularly worried) and you shouldn't have a serious problem with miscasts.
I love Cupped Hands - not only do you not worry about miscasts, you WANT them Well, the first one, anyway
Statisitcally speaking, one is about all a single caster should see in a typical game. Eagleblaze is right on the money though, if the OP is really that worried, perhaps it is worth the points to him to choose the Soul of Stone Discipline as well.
assuming this was a 5 game tournament, you were VERY unlucky to loose the slann twice to miscasts! personally, i just ignore the possibility of miscast. the one time i tried cupped hands, i rolled a 1 for it anyway ><. anyway, in a tournament list where all points need to be spent carefully, i wouldn't advise taking soul of stone. perhaps cupped hands, and that's only for the potential to really screw your opponent up rather than protecting yourself.
Just take a cheap Slann? Slann, BSB, +1 powerdice and go! Add in Plaque of Tepok and you end around 315 points. Plus you will get a unit of 16 TG with a banner for 265 points. 580 points for an nearly unbreakable unit, ld 9 for your army, very good magicphase, 2+AS in combat, BSB. I also play HE, and a Slann is a steal compared to the HE Archmage. An Archmage will cost 350-360 points, but he dosen't have +1 powerdice for each spell and is not coldblooded with a ld9 BSB sitting in a ultimate bunker thats gives you LOS like a large target. On the other hand he can hide in t3 AS 5+/3+ units, waiting to take panic tests from shooting and flee of the board -.- And, oh wait, his bunker unit will also be more expensive than the TG, and he has to be in the front rank and doesn't get LOS like a large target. IMO run the Slann cheap, then, should you loose him, it's no big deal.
