Its a little bit overkill... He doesn't really need that TBH. MAYBE I could see a case for MR, but there seems to be other powers that are more worth taking. Remember, you are spending all those points on a spell caster. He is a wizard. There is no point having something near invincible in your army if it isn't going to contribute, pull its weight and make its points back. I'd rather have one a bit cheaper, little bit easier to kill, but a lot more offensive. .... And its not really a tactic.. I'm sure we all saw those two powers next to each other and considered them.
i think there are uses for all the disiplins, i cant think of a game where i havnt wanted all of them at one point except for the Harrowing. id only ever use it if i ran him on his own, its not worth it when for the same points cost you can have the unit cause fear,,,,
Yeah, the Totem of Prophecy is 5 points cheaper and gives you a much greater US of Fear-Causing, eight foot tall reptilian guardians. It's well worth its points against low-leadership armies. I like Unfathomable Presence, especially when I am playing against a very magic-heavy army. Extending the MR to the most powerful, expensive and consequently the most attractive target is a massive boon. As for Higher State of Consciousness, it's not really ethereal. I don't use it that much because I run the Slann in a unit of Temple Guard, but I could see its uses when the Slann is alone.
Well, how do you guys feel about the Totem of Prophecy in the temple guard unit with the Slann? If it casts something like shades of death on your temple guard, or on any hunting pack, cold ones group or skrox unit, suddenly a lot of your army is causing terror. Which is cool I guess, when your enemy get's close enough to start taking several terror tests. Something has to fail eventually.
Totem of Prophecy is only really good against a low-leadership army such as Orcs and Goblins. It doesn't give the unit an immunity to Fear because they are already Immune to Psychology, but it would do well in screwing up opponent's attacks against your unit.
Untill you stumble upon dwarves...with their Magical artillery.... And I agree with Strewart (assasin!), I'd rather have him cheap(er) and either move offensive of very defensive. Totem is cool, but you can get a lot for those points. I've never used it, and probably never will. That ' terror trick' with magic is cool, but you dont need the totem for that. Buy a Salamander/skrox/any other fear causer instead[/b] of the points invested in the totem. The Hunted
Noob here. Just got my 2k army assembled. Been playing for a while at home, but I want to get enough experience to play in tournaments one day. When fielding slann w. TG, what would work best, in terms of disciples and items? I normally use 3 disciples and/or diadem of power, but is that really necessary?
A slann only really "Needs" the +2 power dice discipline which would be free. Most people like to give him the entire lore discipline, or plaque of tepok (if its not on an EoTG). Some people like the Becalming Cogitation against heavy magic lists, and some people like the Ethereal if they are running a lone slann. The Regeneration and Magic Resistance can also be decent in some situations. Cupped hands is a popular magic item, and usually a dispel scroll or two (or a power stone and dispel scroll) Bane head is popular as well, and so is the 2+ ward against shooting for a lone slann build. Diadem of Power is not really a great choice, a lvl 2 priest can carry that. And alot of people like the slann as bsb, who does well with warbanner. Good Luck...
