    Hi,

In my local community we usually play 1500pt games. I have been playing with skink priests and Tetto'Eko. I have been enjoying it and having varying degrees of success. However I have had advice to put in a Slann, even at this points level.

My problem is that I can't afford a decent unit of TG, the general concensous is to run him between saurus and skink units. I'm finding this difficult because he needs to be in the front rank so the units are pretty useless.

So is there a viable way to run him on his own in this edition?

Instead of making him ethereal, give him a 10-strong skink cohort unit. Protects him from being singled out by missile fire and magic, and gives him a look-out-sir roll against war machines.

How will he fit? My guess is that he'll sit on the side of the unit because his base isn't of the same size factors (He's exactly 2 saurus wide, which is more like 2 1/4 skink bases wide). Does he still get the look out sir? I thought that wasn't the case.

Yes, he goes on the side because of different base sizes. Look Out Sir is based on troop type though, not base size. Since both the Slann and Skinks are infantry, he gets a Look Out Sir roll.

A skirmisher unit is a bit more maneuverable for only a few points more.

Would this also make him a skirmishing slaan?! I love it

Was debating trying a new combat army for my 1k tester next week, but I'm finding cowboys not as interesting against WoC, so I might go solo slann and swarm.. swarm with a bastille just to goof around

My normal opp and I have banned lvl 4's in 1500 point games. Dwellers, Pit ect... remove alot of the fun at that lvl.
If your set on it though a skirmisher unit is ideal as your slann will get the light troops bonus(-1hit from shooting)

So what unit size would you go with to give him enough protection. Is there any protection for a skirmisher unit from cannon fire? There are quite a few scary shooters in my general opponents armies.

I think a unit of 10 skinks is plenty. If you have multiple units, you can switch from one to another if the first gets decimated, and will give you more flexibility.

The Slann will get a Look Out Sir! roll from cannon fire while in the skink unit as long as there are sufficient rank-and-file models left in it.
