Ok, Ive had my lizardmen army for a couple of years now but -shamefully- I have never got round to buying a slann. Now it turns out that Kroak has Comets Call, but not the ability that lets the slann change the constellations. Which should I buy and why?
I fight with: 20 Saurus 10 Saurus Guard 10 Skinks 15 Saurus Knights 1 Scar-veteran on Cold one 1 Oldblood on carnosaur 1 EoTG 3 Terradons 1 Stegadon 2 Starpriests And in a couple of weeks I'm hoping to get an Eternity Warden and Sunblood. I tend to try to misdirect my opponent and then fling my cavalry and carnosaur at what looks like the weakest point in his shield wall. Generally I fight aggressively - I find setting up elaborate traps too dull to play defensively.
Ok, so quite a large difference. Yeah, slann can boost all my units, but Kroak is mostly an extremely powerful attack dog. I think I'll get a slann, thanks for all the advice!
The question is: at larger points games is he worth his points or would you be better off taking other units/characters in his place?
I would say he is absolutely worth the points still. But you will need a 2000+ point army to make it worth your while, as if he is half your army you won't find the same success.
Tbh, I am not so sure on that assessment, it depend on how you build around it. Looking at taking part in a series of games at my store, Kroak + templeguard + Astrolith also using a balewind vortex, and you get a pretty capable army nuker. Especially with the 4 spells of Kroak ensuring he can either sit on top of his balewind with +1 save and +3" are denial, keeping him out of close combat, and potentially reach the 2+ save combined with his rules. I guess it would truthfully end up just how much damage that he will end up doing, what with a +2 casting modifier, a *2 range on his spells and +8 range. Add in a Priestly trappings Skink Priest and you end up with rerolls happening out the wazza. The key is, you would seriously need to build around Kroak to get the best value out of him, but don't we already do that?
Yesterday i played a 1500 points battle- Kroak, 3x5 Guard, 3 rippers, 2 salamanders, Astrolith, Eternity warden- against Nurgle Rotbringers with a mix of Slaves od darkness (Bloab, Nurgle warshrine, 5 putrid blightkings, 25 warriors od Nurgle with 2x HW, 10 marauder horseman with javelins and Shields, gorebeast chariot, harbringer od decay). Total carnage of filthy Chaos worshippers My point iż, if you like defensive playstyle, go for Kroak!
Kroaks spells are by far better, and with the new rules from GW summoning just got nerfed badly. So has anyone got a decent picture of the points values for lizardmen, so I can work out if my points are high enough to use him. There is, after all no point buying him if even using all my stuff I don't have high enough points
