I recently found this awesome combo, and now am unsure as to whether it is worth it. For a high magic slann, I found I was paying Tetto's points purely for the vanguard and the reroll 1's on my slanns casting. I think he cast one comet the entire game. For a WD Slann (which im not a fan of) I found Tetto invaluable. He gives you access to some higher level spells, and makes you able to 1-dice most sigs pretty reliably. (only failing 19% of the time). Also is a great back-up caster for if your slann breaks concentration, which isnt as big of a deal as with the High Magic Slann. Downsides: he basically preculdes taking Scroll/Vassal fodder. He is quite a few points for a non-casting caster. Thoughts?
I think I like the combo quite a bit actually. Heavens magic is nice to have around, and the #1 spell Harmonic Convergence is now pretty good to cast on something with Predatory Fighter. It can also bubble to all units within 12 inches for a 12+ to cast, which would be pretty good if a bunch of your units are about to engage (or are engaged already). Harmonic Convergence synergizes well when cast on a unit with Hand of Glory, which is already hitting on 3+. Curse of the Midnight wind is not bad either, and can really blunt the force of an enemy charge. I think you could still squeeze in an Arcane Vassal/Wyssan's/Scroll Caddy, because of how useful they really are. Lots of those signatures are magic missiles needing line of sight, so having an extra pair of eyes would be quite useful.
I agree that its more than worth it with a WD Slann, but what about a High Slann? I much prefer that playstyle anyway
I've been running a Slaan (not lore master) Tetto and 2 Chotec Bastiladons. With the channel slaan, it seems to be the sweet spot for the magic phase. No matter what, I always seem to have just the right spell, plenty of dice, and an effective magic phase. With Tetto, you can 1 die a 7+ spell (spirit leech) ~78% of the time (1's re-roll, 2's fail). I'm torn between going high magic and death magic; as I find myself cycling high magic for spirit leech every game. Anyhow, bound spells with Tetto is a good ideal. When you roll that 1 for the magic phase, having the bound spells really helps out. -Matt
Works pretty dang well with the High Magic Slann, you can throw 1 dice at the little 5+ spells for a decent chance to cast, and if you fail with the Slann you can fall back on Tetto's spells or Blasterdons.
I don't see a problem with a High Slann and Tet. I would probably pick a BRB lore and Tet though. Having a Slann limited to four spells won't sting as much if you have 7 Heavens spells to fall back on.
