I am new to the 8th edition on warhammer, I have a small lizardmen Amy which is 1200 points, this includes no magic or anything. It does, however, include my slann Mage priest. Does this mean I can't use my slann???

ummmm your Slann knows magic quite well...?

Is "no magic" a restriction you have placed on your army or something ???

A "no magic" clause really hurts some armies...

    Especially Vampire Counts.

I would use magic I just didn't add any to the points total! I would use magic if icould use my slann, but the book says you can't have any lords unless ur Amy is 2000 points. I was just trying to establish if I could use my slann in a 1200 point army

ummm 8th edition switched to a percentage system our newest Lizardmen book is from 7th edition.
use the main rule book rules for building your army.
(Yes you can use a slann with minimal upgrades)

At 1200 points you would get 300 for "Lords" 300 for "Heroes" Slann is 275 base, leaving you 25 points to buff him.

The basic Slann build at 300 points for me would probably be:

If I could get 10 TG in the list:

    Slann (focused rumination)
    plaque of tepok

You could also take the Slann as BSB and bunker him in the TG. At that points level, it would be hard to deal with that unit.

I would drop Plaque for some defense. He has 4 spells and even with a max pool (12 dice) that is 3 dice (4 with discipline) per spell (assuming he does not get shut down). At that point the extra spell really is going to start sapping power dice. (I thought the disciplines were 50 points each. I will have to look at the rulebook). I would take a dispel scroll personally (I love having the auto shut down).

Though at 1200 I would be temped to take a Skink Priest (or two), and spend the points in more units to much on enemies. Depends on the game. In my basement games Sub 1500 a skink w/ tepok is going to give me a 3/5 chance to get Comet which is a beautiful spell on a 4x6 board for terrain denial and extra pow, and LoH jacks fliers nicely. I'll have to play with a 300 point Slann build.

The disciplines are actually 50p each but the slann gets one for free, I guess thats the one he listed.

I would go with Focus of Mystery and make him my BSB for 25 points.
