Recently my army building has gotten more ambitious (relative to my previous attempts anyway). This has invariably involved greater levels of kitbashing, glue spilling, and more greenstuff under my nails than is socially acceptable. In part inspired by forumites such as Rikard, Xanlax_lot, NexS1, and numerous other modellers I thought I'd get a bit of feedback and do that learning thing people talk about. My current project is my new Oldblood, set to be my big general in leave of my Slann. It was at the time my most complex piece of modelling (which isn't saying much), and is still incomplete. I used the body of a Reaper miniature (http://www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/Reptus/latest/14235) and the head of GW's Kroq-Gar. The trickiest bit for me was the neck: I had to shave the plastic neck of Kroq so he didn't look too bulky, support and merge it with greenstuff, and make the greenstuff look all scaly-like. Here is progress so far:
Very nice... looking good. It never ceases to amaze me just how many talented people are on this forum. One question though... Where is the beard?!? Surely you can green stuff your Oldblood a beard! You'd have to admit that it would be unique.
Thanks guys, will endeavour to post up my progress over the next week. Beards are saved exclusively for the Slann, and at the moment mine's suffering from alopecia.
Before moving on with the dual-wielding Oldblood, I decided to get to work on my cowboy (as of yet I don't have one!). I wanted to use the DE Cold-One for my character, but rather than faff about I cheated and bought a conversion off eBay To personalise and get it in-line with the Oldblood above I hacked off the shield, head, and the lance tip and replaced them with parts taken from the Carnosaur kit, using a bit of glue and green-stuff wizardry. My army has an ice/fire theme to reflect their fluff, with the stronger/fiercer forces being more lava-like. I based the Saurus in white, and then dry-brushed colour in increasingly spare layers as the paints got 'warmer'. This technique can be hit and miss, hopefully it'll go well when finished!
