I had a game with Lord Kroak this week... And I loved every minute of it We have just started a narrative warhammer campaign at our gaming club and the first round of games was a standard 1000pt list with a free uber-Mage special character from your army list thrown in. I got Kroak, and I was facing off against a high elf army led by Teclis. It was a landslide victory for the Lizards, but I gained a huge respect for old kroaky, the package of rules that he conveys to his Temple Guard let them soar to new heights of death-stardom and I'm seriously considering running him in a normal list. Adding -1 to hit and unbreakable to TG is downright dirty IMHO, especially if you have a beast priest handy to cast Wildform on them too. Any thoughts?
Indeed, it was the first time I've ever really done any vassal shenanigans with the feathered priest, but he really did me proud. Actually it was the -1 to hit in combat that really was the kicker, Kroak marched his temple guard up to a block of 30 white lions with the dragon banner and proceeded to tear through them in 3 rounds. Elves really don't know what to do when they are hitting on 4s with no reroll.
Kroak + Tetto + Temple Guard Deathstar = Win. Basically, field a giant unit of unbreakable S5 predatory fighters, who are WS4 and -1 to be hit/shot, vanguard them forward, and shove them down your opponents throat. If I go first, turn 1 I'm 4" from your table edge with an unbreakable horde that's spamming an area hit. 60 Temple guard, with Kroak and a BSB with the skaven pelt banner is stupidly good (razorbanner on the TG). With vanguard, you can get the jump on your opponent and get point blank before they have a chance to set up redirecting units. -Matt
How are you getting the TG to benefit from the skaven pelt banner? Kroak isn't a BSB and you can't take any other characters in the TG unit because of Unbreakable.
Depends on the order in which Heroes join the unit. I believe it has been discussed before, but Kroak confers Ubreakable upon the ENTIRE unit, including any characters therein, so really, he can just bring a scar Vet BSB!
Doesn't work, the Unbreakable rules state that even if a hero temporally become unbreakable, they can't join an unbreakable unit if they are not unbreakable themselves.
The character isn't joining an unbreakable unit. He's joining temple guard, which can break. He is then part of the unit. It works Exactly like a grey seerer on a bell. The seer joins a unit which pushes the bell, and they all become unbreakable. The skaven FAQ shows that you can have other characters join during deployment, and then add the seer making the unit unbreakable, with the attached characters. If the additional characters leave, they are unable to return. -Matt
How i see it you dont really even need FAQ around the rule. If ur unit is unbreakable you cannot join an unbreakable character in it. If you put Kroak in a TG group, the unit becomes unbreakable. Now an character that doesnt have unbreakable rule cannot join the unit, but nowhere it is said that a breakable character must exit the unit. In this case simply put [EDIT] the scarvet in first, then lord kroak.
