Thought I'd share with you some of the builds I use for my games; Slann With Temple Guard Battle Standard Bearer Becalming Cogitation, Focus of Mystery, Focused Rumination, Unfathomable Presence Plaque of Dominion Lore of Life Gives the TG unit Magic Resistance, and making enemy wizards that can see the Slann suffer from stupidity. Helped out loads esp against those pesky night goblin shamans. Solo flying Slann Unfathomable Presence, Focus of Mystery, Focused Rumination, Higher State of Conciousness Arabyan Carpet Cupped Hands of the Old Ones Lore of Fire or Death or Shadow - haven't decided which I like best yet tbh, but shadow + flying means you can line up the "6D6" in a straight line Initiative test or death" spell nicely... Slann is immune tonon-magical attacks, and has a 2+ Ward Save against spell damage, and is hopefully mobile enough to avoid characters with magic weapons... Carnosaur Build - Unit Destroyer Old-Blood on Carnosaur with Sword of Striking, Light Armour and Shield Crown of Command, Glyph Necklace Gives a 1+ Save, 5+ ward save. Makes him stubborn and +1 to Hit. Great for charging into big units. This guy puts out 5 S5 attacks with +1 to hit, 5 S7 attacks and then D6 S7 Hits. Does loads of damage to rank and file troops, and with The Crown of Command he doesn't really have to worry about static combat res. Skink Chief - Sniper build Skink Chief on Terradon with Spear, Staff of the Lost Sun, Light Armour and Shield Bane Head This guy puts out 3 S5 shots with a BS of 5. If there is a lone character to nominate with the bane head then this mobile sniper can seriously hurt it. Skink Chief - Flying Terror Skink Chief on Terradon with Spear, Blowpipe, Glittering Scales and Shield The Terrifying Mask of Eeee! A Flying Terror causer for under 150 pts. Have to be wary of not charging too big a unit. But if there's a small Night Goblin unit on a flank somewhere it's worth a charge. A chain reaction panic test can be devastating. Scar-Vet - BSB build Scar-Vet on Cold One with Gold Sigil Sword, Light Armour and Shield The Crown of Command If I don't have a slann, I give the Battle Standard to this guy, placed in a Saurus block. It makes the Unit stubborn gives a few attacks at I10.
Dwarf cannons are magical if equipped with runes, and who doesn't? However you do have a 4 ++ basic from the chair, Also beware woodelves with the magic arrows,
Also for unit and hero destroying: Oldblood on Carnosaur- Scimitar of the Sun Resplendant Maiming Shield Carnosaur Pendant This gives the model 14 (+D6 on the charge) attacks after the carno goes frenzied. Remember that the Carno pend is nessisary now because your character doesn't gain frenzy from it's mount.
Save yourself 10pts and get the Sword of Strife from the common magic items in the 8th Ed. Rulebook. Does the same exact thing. Or better yet for the same price of the Sword of Strife and the Pendant you can get the Sword of Bloodshed so you have +3 attacks right off the bat without having to kick in frenzy.
Also my Carnoblood build Oldblood - • Dawnstone • Armor of Fortune • Sword of Strife • Shield • Carnosaur Mount Rocks a rerollable +1 AS and a 5+ WS to boot to survive a great deal of returning strikes from infantry. It's really tough for the likes of Empire Swordsman to have to hit, THEN roll 6's to wound then get through TWO +1 saves then a ward save. The Sword of Strife gives him a respectable 7 attacks.
Hmm, excellent point! How unfortunate that SoB costs sixty, sort of limits your ability to take many other magic items...but that's the (adaquate) price you pay for +3 attacks.
