Just some thoughts on different units and Pacts we might find useful to our army. I'm making the assumption of a 3k game here, so adjust accordingly if you go smaller/larger in SoM. Magic: - Light: 'Time Amok' is pretty hilarious, as it allows us to leverage our close-combat focus of Saurus and TG blocks, or alternatively get in another volley of poison and Salamander burnination. 'Assault of Stone' is fun for creating giant obstacles. - Metal: 'Ironclad' turns TG into unkillable monsters, 'Quicksilver' combo'd with 'Speed of Light' or 'Timewarp' is brutal (auto-wound, no armour save). 'Golden Globe' is another 'Sun', but doesn't test on Initiative (straight 3+ , or a 5+ if you're a character). - Life: 'Warcry' lets you make Blood Forests at will, which is pretty handy (it inflicts auto-hits on the turn its made), 'Apothesis' is great for bringing back dead Saurus or TG blocks that just got nuked (doesn't work on characters though). - Shadow: 'Illusion' is pretty hilarious, as if it's a building, the unit inside is teleported as well. 'Bridge of Shadows' lets you teleport units where needed (imagine getting a Steg into their artillery gunline). For sheer insanity though, 'Dance of Despair' shuts down everything (including Wizards) and is RIP for the entire enemy army. - Heavens: On your EOTG, or even a cheap Priest for scroll carrying, there is one you have to cast. 'Fantastic Foresight' is re-rolls to all castings, dispels and channelings, and its RIP. 'The Four Winds' is pretty handy for blowing enemy units around, and you can even blow enemy Wizards off Fulcrums with it. Monsters: Eagles: They're fast, they can have S6 ASF Flaming attacks at WS5/I4, and multiple wounds mean they are a real headache for the enemy to get rid of. Pretty cheap too, you can field then solo or in small flocks. Wyvern: Discount dragon, better than Carnosaur in many aspects, and again it can fly. Zoat: Tough, has Lore of Life standard. If you can upgrade him to Level 4, makes getting 'Throne' or 'Dwellers' more reliable. Pacts: Vampire Lord w/Blood Drinker, Nightshroud, Other Tricksters Shard, Forbidden Lore of Metal, Beguile, Infinite Hatred, Summon Ghouls (380 points) 10 x Ghouls (80 points) Pretty brutal ally to have. He's got an awesome meatshield to keep himself alive (can keep adding to the unit with 'Nehek', and with 'Ironclad' on the unit they just don't die). When fighting a Wizard on a Fulcrum with 'Quicksilver' turned on, he's one of the best assassins in the game (re-rolls to hit, re-rolls to wound if they fail a Ld test at -3, forcing re-rolls to their 3+ ward, auto-wounding, healing himself or his bodyguard with each wound inflicted).
If i close my eyes real tight and put my fingers in my ears, sometimes i can pretend that SoM never happened...
Code: If i close my eyes real tight and put my fingers in my ears, sometimes i can pretend that SoM never happened... Haha, why so despondent man? I thought it was a pretty good attempt at an Apoc-style expansion for Fantasy.
