decided i will try a different style of play for my game this week, i ussually have the typical slann, couple of saurus blocks, salamanders, chams and a skrox unit in 1500 points. This week i am going to run 3 skrox units of 2 krox and 16 skinks, a war spear skink chief on stegadon, skink priest(for defense). and a scar vet gen, scar vet bsb in a unit of saurus. my plan is to be in the opponents face before they have chance to use there superior missile fire. i play a lot of high elves and they are really cutting my units of saurus down before i get into them.

Do you guys think this is a nice idea both in terms of practicality and i think it will be a nice feeling when thiose elves have krox and stegadons charging in turn 2 potentialy.

not such a good idea IMO. steg will be pierced by balista (which will not be bothered by chams, if I read correctly), skrox will get punctured by arrows and then go down to ASF and higher WS in combat, due to low WS, AS and no parry save. saurus will probably get dwellers or purple sun on them (with the skink having a smaller chance to dispel). that's what I would do if I was the HE player.
and lastly - I can already hear many ppl commenting :) - why no salamanders? that is one of the best things we have against elves (if not the best one).
but hey - give it a run and let us know, maybe we will all be surprised ;)

i take your points on board, they are all very likely to happen. I will still give it a go and see what happens. i will report back on friday although you got me worried im going to be butchered now. I normally run 2 sallys and agree they are great just fancied a change of style for once. Might be that im better actually using a different army for when i want a change imnstead of trying to get my lizards to do something they arent made for.

I like the idea of trying something new - the same old list and play style can get boring.

But that said, I don't think your Skrox blocks will work very well. 16 Skinks just isn't enough protection for the Kroxigors. You don't need to be a horde, but I would increase those blocks to at least 22 skinks (makes a nice 6x5 block), probably more. To pay for the extra skinks, you could drop the Stegadon or even drop the Saurus and field a total skink army (put Skink Chiefs with the skrox for hero punch). This would also allow room for the much beloved Salamanders.

I'm loving that you're going to try running without a slann. This is like the 3rd time I see anyone bar me to make do without pedo-toad and his 'magic tricks'. (You know he wants the skink.)

    Cheers!

We've got a Dwarf player in my group who excells at anti-magic. I don't even try to take magic against him! In instances like that I adore the uses of OB on a Carno w/ 13+ attacks! My buddy is getting really tired of the Dino-o-doom so every once in a while I break tradition with him and run my OB on a Cold One and take an Ancient.

Ran an Oldblood on a Carnosaur today in a 3000point match against a Wood Elf army that had been expecting a Slann. Suffice it to say, I won pretty soundly :p

Will definately try him out again in the future. His next target is a certain High Elf Dragon...

It seems that OB are highly underrated and especially so when on a Carnosaur. True with 8th Ed. war machines have become all the more terrible but in the half dozen or more games I've run him in he's escaped all games alive with the exception of my last time and the Carno got eatten by trolls. Most of those games had potential Dinosaur killing power too but careful use of terrain and unit coverage (the model is not a large target and can hide behind units) mostly negates that.
