Hello all, I am brand new to Warhammer and obviously this forum. I have been reading and asking the staff at my local store many questions. I have a question that I realized today. Can a a soldier have and use a shield and a spear at the same time? What rules and situations need I be aware of? Thanks, Kaax Taat
Yes spears are one handed weapons, so a soldier with a spear and a shield will get +1 to his armor save, note however that since he is no longer using a hand weapon with the shield he dosen't get a parry.
I personally would like to see the "pike" or "Sarissa" be represented in warhammer. these are a two handed 15-21 foot long spear. Used famously by Alexander the Greats Macedonian Phalanx and the swiss pikes of the 16th century.
yeah they could dish out a lot of pain from a small distance but get owned in close combat nah not gona happen
When there was a dogs of war army they had a unit of pikemen in that army. http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat500025a&prodId=prod1140038
So can somebody clarify please? What save does a Saurus with a spear and shield have? What save does a Saurus with a hand weapon and shield have? Both at range and in close combat. I just want to make sure that I'm doing it right. Thanks in advance! Iggy
Sweet! That's what I had been doing but just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the clarification, Hoverboy! Iggy
Just so you know there are three cases where a model with a shield gets different saves for combat and shooting. Those are halbers, great weapons and two hand weapons, all of whom have the "requires two hands" USR and prevent you from using a shield in close combat.
