7th Ed. spears

    hi people, a friend of mine said spears attack with 2 ranks even if they charge that is not right... right?

    That is absolutely not right. They will fight the first round of combat with 1 rank and after that with 2 ranks.
    (unless you play high elves, they fight in 2 ranks when charging and in 3 ranks after that).

    Only the first round if you charge them, if they charge you then you get 2 ranks to attack. It is basically 2 ranks fight unless you moved in that turn, which can basically only happen if you charge someone.

    Spears = Defensive Weapon = No bonus on the move (unless otherwise stated i.e. HE)

    20 S4 attacks on the charge would be beasty....lolz

    What if...

    What it Saurus faught in 3 ranks like high elves?...they'd be expennnnnsive!

    They would be insane. 31 s4 attacks? Or 21 on the charge?* That is nuts! And exactly why they fight in 2 ranks, not 3. :)

    *The rules for spears actually say if you move in the turn, you fight with one less rank than normal, so a HE spearmen unit charging will fight in 2 ranks still since they normally fight in 3. Not sure how many people know that.
