*Gulp* This is my first post so please be gentle.

I've just started a Lizardmen army following the release of the new rules (I started getting models together before the release but my gaming group, that have solely played 40k up to now, decided it would make more sense to start learning the rules AFTER they had all changed) .

The main lesson I learned from my other army is the realisation that a fully painted and based army with a decent paint job looks a hundred time better than a few really well painted miniatures in a rabble of just about under-coated peers.

With this in mind I thought I would share my research into batch painting an army to a high tabletop standard in a minimal amount of time.

This is a unit of Skinks that I gave a florescent yellow undercoat, a red ink wash over the scaly parts of there skin and picked out main detail like eyes and weapons. I then dipped them in Army painter (soft tone).

...after that I used the anti-shine stuff...

You cant really tell in these pictures but I made 3 key mistakes:

    1) My undercoat was uneven and a bit "spluttery"
    2) I should have picked out ALL the detail like cuffs and such before dipping
    3) I used too much anti-shine and ended up with them looking a bit like they'd been out in the frost.

I'm still relativity happy with the results and I'll add a command squad thingy when I get the right miniatures.

Re: Speed painting a Skink Regt (Saurus Regt to follow).

Well done, and welcome to Lustria! I agree with you totally, they do look like they are a bit frosty, but with a bit of background fluff, you can sure make this a good thing. I don't know, something about being spawned in a pool that was very close to Naggaroth?

And in my opinion, I would change the colour of the flock that you use, at the moment, it looks a bit of the same thing between the transition form model to base. You could get brown flock or paint it. But, if you're going for the frosty look, then it would sure be emphasised by a bit of snow on the ground, what do you think? Not completely covering it, just a few patches here or there could work wonders.

That's only my suggestions, you can choose to listen to as many or as few as you would like.

I was thinking of adding some of that orangey yellow static grass and a few rocks to try and get more of a distinction. I think I might take your advice on and see if I can add a really dark wash to the grass and darken it down a bit, thanks.

Re: Speed painting a Skink Regt (Saurus Regt to follow).

I've been trying to use some of what I picked up from that last unit to help with the Suarus, I thought I'd try a few things differently though and see if the results are better.

I started with the same fluorescent undercoat, only this time orange.

I then picked out the detail and tried a dark dip (the last one I sued was the "soft" dip)

I wasn't too sure if I liked the results, I thought the contrast might be a bit too much so I dipped another one in the soft dip to see if he looked better.

I realise that in an effort to save time I hadn't washed the scales a different colour, the way I had with the Skinks, so I've added a green wash to the scales and I'll see how that turns out in the morning.

For a speed painting system, you've some really nice results there. I especially like the skinks, and would also agree about maybe putting a little bit of brown on the bases, so your focus becomes just the mini.

    Good job!

Okay, here's the orange Saurus Regt pretty much finished, minus the shields, and I've started a more conventional colour schemed version.

I've only finished the test mini at the front (and if I'm honest I spent more time on him than I will with the others) but it should still look pretty decent when the they're finished.

I got bored of painting rank and file so I decieded to take a day off and do a priest for a battle I have coming up. He's not 100% done, I need to bring up some more highlights and touch it up here and there but here he is anyways:

I just brought a Steg today so I think those Saurus might have to wait a bit longer.

I love the variation you have between your different troop choices. Different types of Lizardmen having their own colour scheme looks great to me.

As someone that has yet to paint his entire army (except my Cold One Mounts, which took me a week for just the 5 of them), I really like how quick this seems to be. I would like to know which brand of paint you are using to basecoat with and would like to know what dipping them is.

You can PM me rather than spamming your thread.

Back on topic though, I look forward to seeing more. You give people like me who don't have a lot of time on their hands hope for having a decent looking tabletop army.

Nice job on the Skink Priest,
    You have good contrast between
all the different bits, and a decent paint job over all. :)

I was about to start paining up the rest but since I have my camera back I'll try and put together a mini run-down of what I do with photos...hopefully before the end of the week.
