    Hello all,

Quick question that came up in a game yesterday.

How do spells interact with hidden monsters?

Direct damage shooting type spells my opponent and I have always randomised the hits between the rider and monsters, except when templates are used.

How do spells which target units such as the net of amontyk (from the lore of light) or dwellers below affect ridden monsters?

Do you just take one strength (characteristic) test for the entire model using the highest value?

Sorry if this has come up before and thanks for your thoughts

Not sure on the legality of it, but we've always played it as the caster specifies the target. If the rider has a "normal" steed, then it's treated as a complete unit. If the rider has a monster as a mount, then the caster specifies which target as both can operate without the other.

    a) spells that target the unit: randomise (usually 5+ rider)
    b) template spells: hits both
    c) spells that target the model: either choose the part of the model (the hounds spell from lore of metal) or in case of characteristic tests you choose teh best value, so in case of dwellers below the whole model would roll once against the S of the monster (usually)

    It's something like this:
    1. The "Templaes" rule explains what happens when a character on a monster is hit by a template.
    2. This replaces the 2nd step of the "Shooting at Ridden Monsters rules" whenever a template is involved thus eliminating the randomising rules.
    3. It is then followed by step 3 the wounding rules.
    4. Purple Sun/Pit of Shades are spells that use templates and thus hit both the rider and his mount.
    5. These spells however do not wound but cause a characteristic test, one per model (specific).
    6. These hits would mean two tests, but this would brake rule example 5, because a character and his monster are one model.
Conclusion – We have no choice but to make one test using the rules as given on page 10.

So a spell/shot can easily wound both provided its a template, but can never cause multiple tests without specific permission (i'm not sure on the exact wording of the curse of the bad moon ATM).
