So if have a game against ogres coming up and we are playing blood and glory. As i dont have my book on hand right now my question is, how can a unit lose its standard? Breaking from combat is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. Does simply fleeing lose you your standard?

A unit keeps its standard if it flees for a reason besides breaking from combat (such as voluntary charge reaction or failed Panic test).

Only breaking combat, not just simply fleeing but there is another way of losing your standard:

If you unit is destroyed completely in combat, if you are wiped out rather than break, they get your standard

With respect to blood and glory, it is about losing your standard rather than the opponent gaining it, so a unit getting destroyed by shooting or spells will also cause you to lose a standard and a point of fortitude.
