Hiya I've been wanting to start a lizardmen army for quite some time, but I've never really knew where to start. I was hoping that someone would help me with a pretty standard 500 point list for me to buy as a starting point? I've got a few models from when I was a kid - skink and Taurus from the warhammer box (when it was bretonia vs lizardmen) also a croxigor and a salamander. And finally I'm new to this forum so hello forum people
I don't got the exact points matchup in my head but something like this is a good start: 1 Skink Priest 20 Saurus 10 Skink Skirmishers 1-2 Salamanders That way you also have something to do in every phase of the game.
Hmm, I would definitely add a Scar Vet. Probably bump up the saurus to 24 models (+ scar vet). Another unit of 10 skink skirmishers, an unit of skink chameleons of 6 and maybe an unit of 3 terradons. The chameleons and terradons takes care of any warmachine. Soften up infantry with the salamanders and pepper high toughness targets with poison fire from the skinks. Then you move in the saurus to kill any remaining foes ^^ The one thing this list lack is a hammer but that is a general problem with lizardmen, you could try a stegadon but that's quite too expensive for 1000 pts (it's due to die from cannon fire). One thing with lizardmen is that you never can have too many skinks, bring lots of 'em. And you will love the salamanders, they're great! Your opponents will hate them.
Hello and welcome. You should always have at least a frontage of 5 models, that way you can have the rank bonus and remain steadfast longer. I think the actual number of models in the front is dependent on what you are against up and the terrain. 5-6 models is the most often used, I guess.
I'm looking into starting Lizardmen as well. Is the battalion a good starting point for them? It seems to have a few of each of their basic units. What are some good additions to the battalion box for a cheap starting army? Thanks,
If you have got the battalion set, I suggest you get some sort of hero/champion; whether it be old blood or scar vet.
I was going to say that the battalion box is quite a good starting point, only thing to note is you should probably only use the Cold One Riders as mounted Scar Vets as COR are seriously overpriced in this edition. Overpriced, not only v other Lizardmen options, but especially v other Cavalry (check out DE Cold One Cavalry, probably very slightly better in battle, although not much in it, but several points cheaper per model)
I think, after buying the battalion set, most people would buy more skinks. I personally chose to buff up my saurus blocks but hey, its up to you. I agree with BEEG, you should use one of the CoC as a champion. As for saurus block, I run them 6 wide equipped with Hand Weapons and Shields.
I also just recently started fantasy, after playing 40k for several years, and so far I have to agree with all the postings here. I started with the battalion and used the CoC as a mounted scar vet for the lower point games. I picked up a skink priest and have added more saurus and skinks, along with some salamanders. unfortunately the TG sit on the sidelines until you get to the higher point games when you can afford a Slann. remember to try and make your warriors at least 5 wide and 4 deep. While skink units like skrox, terradons, stegs, chameleon, and salamanders might be the killing force in our army, the saurus are the tanks that absorb all the damage. 1000 point army should see a nice sized saurus block with a scar vet, another saurus block, some salamanders, and some skinks to round it all out. Maybe a skink priest with a dispel scroll just so you don't get rolled over by magic.
what's CoC? Sorry that may sound dumb. I have purchased nearly all my army now, just sorting paitning it. At my local games club the battles are mostly 2400 points. My total point atm are around 2200. Can anyone recommend any good magical items for Slann, skink priests or TG champion and SB. Also, I am really stuck on the cavalry, I have 8 but I read a lot of forums saying they are not worth the points cost and its better to run terradons or a steggy, any ideas??
CoC = Cold One Calvery. Yeai know they are expensive, but sometimes you need an expensive unit to get the job done.
COC stands for Cold One Cavalry. Sometimes you see COR, Cold One Rider, which is essentially the same thing. Here' a sticky thread that lists most of the often used abbreviations, a warmly recommended read: http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=148 Also, I think you should play at least two or three games with the dinoriders and then form your own opinion. I'm not saying that the other forum users are wrong, but the environments vary greatly between areas and countries. It might turn out that in your area the Cold One Cavalry is a powerful addition.
there are two really standard lores to use with the Slann, life and light. If you like the idea of just slowly wearing down your opponent and feel safe about it then you should go with Life and get the cupped hands for miscast protection. If you like the idea of a more offensive approach than go with light. With the points you are allotted I would grab three disciplines. But if you want more or less prioritize this way; -Focus of Mystery is a must because it gives us the ability to use every spell in the lore, which is needed for the lore of life more than anything else. -The Focused Rumination is a great discipline because it adds a free power die with every spell that you cast. This can allow you to use more than 12 dice per casting phase, but not more than 6 per spell. -Becalming Cogitation is the other discipline i really ever consider using because it allows you to pick an enemy wizard within 24" and cancel out any 6's they roll for the magic phase that turn, this means that there obviously is no chance for them to get irresistible force and makes dispelling easier on us. -If you really want to go with another one I guess Higher State of Consciousness because it makes the Slann invulnerable to any attack that isn't magical. Obviously you can feel free to make any decision that you want about the disciplines, these are just the ones most frequently seen. As far as any items other than cupped hands, thats basically all about what you want out of your Slann. I have seen crown of command on a Slann in a saurus warrior block so that temple guard dont have to be used. As far as items on a skink priest, most often they are given dispel scrolls. Though I have seen the Cloak of Feathers used so the priest can quickly get into a good position so that the Slann can channel through him for offensive spells.
Yeah, with Rumination you can go over the normal maximum of 6 dice. It's right in the description text and hasn't been FAQed.
whoops I see what I did, I meant it count towards your power limit, so if you roll double 6's for winds you can't use the effect of Focused Rumination on your first cast.
