Well, im a skaven player (Boo, Hiss ) and I really want to start an army of lizards so I bought the book today and have made my list, feel free to rip this list to sgreds by the way, I have alot to learn! Lord Slann – Three disciplines – Battle Standard Bearer – 495 pts Magic Items – Cupped Hands of the Old Ones – itxi grubs – Diadem of Power Heroes Skink Priest – Level 2 – Engine of the Gods – 405 pts Magic Items – Plaque of Tepok Saurus Scar Veteran – Light Armour – 125 pts Magic Items – Enchanted shield – Burning Blade of Chotec Core 20 x Saurus – Full Command - 250 pts 20 x Saurus – Full Command - 250 pts 10x Skink Skirmishers – 70 pts 10 x Skink Skirmishers – 70 pts Special 20 x Temple guard – Full Command – War Banner 376 pts Stegadon – 235 pts Rare 3 x Razordons – 225 pts Total points –2,501 pts Now im not to sure about the razordons, I just put them in because i really like the model but I've been thinking of taking them out and adding a 5 x unit of cold one raiders with no champ and then giving the Scar vet a cold on to ride with them, what do you think? Cheers, first post!
a good first list, 1. you should put what disciplines you chose for your slan 2. generaly every one fields saurus in groups of 18 6x3 with spears for maximum attacks also champions are generaly considered a waste of points 3. you should get some terridonns or chameleon skinks in there somwhere for anti warmachine and march blockers 4. salamanders generaly are considered a tiny bit better than razordons but thats your choice hope i helped Geko
the 3rd discipline on teh slann is gneerally a waste of points stince you can get anything you want with just 2 (mystery and rumination)... some like to get becalming cogitation or higher state of counciousness from time to time aswell so its a matter of choice here you can't have the cupped hands and the ixti grubs since they are both arcane item,s not that the grubs are of much use anyway the scar vet should be mouned on a cold one for teh extra +2 save, its not expensive and stupidity at ld 8/9 cold blooded should bea easy to pass champions in saurus units are usless same as champions in clanrat units or any other unit where you don't have a character you want to proect from challenges 20 is quite a lot and not worth it, their biggest setrenght are the spears so the best way to field them is either 15 5x3 or 18 6x3 for maximising attacks, they make up for the lost CR through kills from lots of attacks the champion on the TG is nice if you want to give him a magic item (i suggest the sword of hornet or the blood statuete of spite for a nasty surprise) also, 16 TG + slaan make a nice 5x3 block, the extra 4 aren't really needed and could yeld the points for some terradons or chameleons stegadon... meh, i'd rather have the ancient for the extra S and the blowpipes, much more relaible than the giant bow as for razordons, theres a nice topic in the tactics section as to why salamanders are better than razordons. its allmost the same thing as ratling gun vs warpfire thrower but the weaker version of both and a bit more reliable also, do try to not post the point cost of units wich are 10x something, no upgrades and such since its slightly against forum rules and international law
Thank you very much kind sirs, yous have answered my unasked questions about spears. 18 saurus with spears sounds good. Im thinking chameleon skinks over terridons (I like the models more) I think i'll tone done the TG and Saurus blocks and maybe see about a scroll caddy and swapping the steg for an ancient steg. Was thinking about the blood statuete of spit as 2 mates play elves. Going to have another go at this list.
I whole heartedly agree with Bibamus, all his points are very good and should be taken to heart. It is true that almost everyone on this forum are huge fans of the salamanders. However, like a certain someone who is very adament about rank and file skinks, I have a warm spot in my heart for the razordons. Though they don't cause panic checks as well as salamanders they do have a slightly better overall stat line than the manders. It really comes down to it athetics will decide. Manders might eventually win you over if you like the panics (combines with terries or camelions). Also it's worth mentioning rank and file skinks. They are good cheap units for redirecting troops and their movement is excellent for getting flank charges. Combine them with a one or two Kroxs (I believe in a 6x3+Krox formation) and you've got some punch. They aren't as squishy as they might look. Now don't be surprised if this formation get's shot down, it really comes down to personal preference. I like the idea as well as a few others. So just keep them in the back of your mind and perhaps try them out from time to time. Good luck!
Going to use some old metal skinks with bows as my cham skinks, I cant see anyone objecting to me using them as cham skinks anyway? Anyway, Im thinking of 2 units of 7 cham skinks or maybe 1 unit of 7 and a unit of 3 terridons, not sure yet. Been tihnking of adding another priest with the cloak of feathers and rod of the storm, to fly about and be annoying and to channel. COC are making it into the list for sure now. Not sure about sallies though. razordons are dropped and im taking the advice on the saurus and temple guard blocks. as for the slann, two disciplines. Focus of mystery and rumination, though i am uncertain about leaving Cogitian at home... List is still WIP! Over and out!
