How many infantry models do you need in order to gain steadfast against a monster or a chariot that has no ranks? In most cases (like when addind to combat resolution) you only count the full ranks behind the first one, however in the section for steadfast it only requires you to have more ranks.

5 models equals 1 rank. 1 hydra has no ranks.
Does this mean that the 5 models are steadfast?

I also wonder about chariots and obstacles. I thought that they did not get impact hits when charging a defended obstacle since the models did not accually touch in the CC phase but I can find no direct mentioning of this situation.

Would apriciate help in interpreting these situations.

yes, all ranks are counted, so if you have 5 infantry models (5 wide) you would be steadfast vs hydra and such

I believe to be steadfast you literally just have to have MORE ranks than your opponent so yes a rank of 5 infantry models will always be steadfast against things like hydras.

Ok, that is very good to know, however what do you think of my second question?

Can impact hits be caused to someone in cover since they are dealt to units in base contact while units behind cover are obviously not in base-contact but on the other side of a wall.

    What do you think?
