Can steed of shadows be cast on a character and his mount, cuz flying stegadons and carnasaurs would be amazing!

Previous editions had limits on the character but this edition does not.

As usual GW don't make the wording completely unambiguous as someone could argue that the spell only says character and does not specifically add that mounts move as well.

Elsewhere in the book there are examples of where character means both character and mount without specifying mount as well, e.g. deployment.

The straightforward reading of the rule is that the character including any mount, normal and magical equipment get a fly move.

The other change to the spell this edition is that you cannot use the spell to charge into combat as the spell only allows "remaining movement" which doesn't include charges.

Well I would like to use stegadons more, and the only way I could see myself doing this is by making that damn thing fly. How do most people react after telling them, youre gonna make this massive beast fly? Do they often try to tell you that you cant?

My main argument would be that GW is pretty specific when it comes to casting spells on or using magic items on "models on foot" only....

For example Transformation of Kadon, Arabyan Carpet.

    Yes you can,
If someone asks why, because the rules say that you can, as earlier mentioned, the rules specify this exactly, if you fly your mount goes as well. It's tournament league, at least in the Europe.

Now that is a very interesting change... Boosting a stegadon behind enemy lines in the first turn? I think so! Or a carnosaur in a large enough game.

Wow! This just sounds insane... yet deadly enough to give it a try! :bored:

Need to check the current wording on the pair of jaguar Nike's that have been at the back of the cupboard since it was changed to a bound spell...

I want this to be true.

    But....

Page 105 of LRB states that special rules don't carry over between monstrous mounts and riders (except for certain instances listed on page 82). So it looks like this won't work.

Please tell me I'm reading it wrong :shifty:

    EDIT:

While we're on the subject of combining mounts and riders, I have a few Q's about things that generally aren't "special rules", and I apologize if they've been answered before:

-If a skink priest has Ironcurse rune, does the steg get the 6+ ward save, as well?
-As above, but with Venom of the Firefly Frog...does the steg get poisoned/magic attacks?
-As above above, but with the Rebirth item thingy...does the steg get 6+ regen too? And if it was hit by multi-wound war machine (looking at you, Great Cannon) would a successful wound regen apply AFTER resolving the cannon. Would the regen apply to EACH of the D6 wounds inflicted? Example: steg is hit once, empire rolls a 5, 5 wounds on steg, steg would die, I roll 5 dice and at least one is a 6, saving the steg from death. In other words, can it maybe save my bacon from turn 1 war machine sniping?

    Rock on,

    Ian

No the mount wouldn't receive any of those bonus's, I think that's what the BRB was referring too.

Most of those I agree, it's fairly 'obvious' to anyone but a persuasive rules lawyer that they wouldn't apply. But, the Iron Curse Rune says '...and the unit he is with' so if he's on a monstrous mount, would it not apply???

Iron curse item is unit buff so steggie gets it as would the crew on a chief's mount.

Venom and regen are character buffs so ony apply to priest/chief not steggie/crew.

If steggie got regen (e.g. if Mazdamundi had lore of life!) you would take 1 save and only multiply to D6 if regen failed.
