So playing Ogre Kingdoms today, nice friendly match, keeping the cheese to a minimum. But then the dim witted ogres pulled a fast one on me,; Engine was in combat with a Slavegiant and fluffed my toughness test on a throttle with chain attack (2d6 wounds with no armour saves if Ttest failed) got 4 wounds on my ancient stegadon, and then a unit of 6 ogre bulls which had reformed last turn, charged single file into the side of the steg, causing a single strength 9 impact hit, which then felled the steg. Just thought id share that with everyone
Wow that is quite a nasty trick, but poor luck on your part too with the giant attack. Hmmm.... *Begins thinking up an army of ogre missiles* They definitely don't have to have a proper rank to get the strength bonus? That was my first thought, but I cannot check since I can't seem to find my ogre book.
i've played a lot of ogre battles as them and against them the missle tactic hasn't proven itself very much it seem to be better to charge with the width and get the extra attacks and impact hits imho i could see an argument against brets mabye chaos and large targets but i would leave those to the hunter
Something tells me its +1 strength for every Ogre directly behind the other... But Something else tells me the Ogres must be 3 wide.... Meh cant remember for the life of me Hahaha
The unit must have at least 3 ogres in it. But there are no restrictions in terms of ranks or anything. Kinda amusing really, got some mental image of a load of ogres piling up behind each other: "okay boys, chaaaaaarge!"
Yeah against most things, the extra attacks and more lower strength impact hits would be better. But consider the opponent will only be able to hit back at one model. I guess 4 ogres across would probably kill a full rank of most things anyway. I mainly see it as very useful against single monsters and the like, as demonstrated in this thread. Maybe against heavy cavalry.
but as to taking out dragons a tryant with 2 or 3 behind him would be devestating with a great weapon or nasty magic weapon this thread also got me to thinking of a battle i had against dwarves where i had my tyrant with mastadon armour (2+ ward on last wound from shooting) i had my unit my tyrant was in, he had a cannon on the other side of the table we were on the back edge of the table i reformed into a train and ran straight at him like 30 some inches to win the game was really funny every time i made my ward save
