Well i guess it's what my question is, I want to use one because I love the model, so which is better for the points Normal Stegadon or A. Stegadon? Also what are they best used for?
I prefer the ancient steg for the higher strength impact and stomp hits. I also find the blow pipes to be useful as opposed to the giant bow which can't reliably hit anything.
i would also say use a ancient stegadon just look at my name duhhh, well bebause it has higher safes it has 1 more strengt wich as sad is verry usefull for stomp and impact hits and not forget that a ancient stegadon may make a stand and shoot reaction and a normal stegadon may not ;P
You just summed up the reasons why I think a Ancient is better, but I want to ask everyone here, and ask about everyone's experiences.
well if you ask me about experince i still say ancient stegadon because the last time i used it i was not only able to break the unit that was protecting a war machine it was also able to kill the warmachine sins it has 2 times 2D6 inpact hits wich are poinsion
If I suspect I may be facing a war machine, I'll take the regular stegadon just to draw it's fire. Sometimes it's worth sparing the rest of your units a turn or two of shooting for the lower price.
if you have BS 3 from skink crew and you fire with it you will probly move so it will be a -1BS for moving most time you will also have a -1BS from long range witch means you will just hit on 6+........
so you will just make one hit in the hole game? and i was wondering it pierces ranks so if you make a poision shot are all models you hit hit by poisen?
Well I guess it's clear its gonna be the ancient, unless someone has a really good reason to take the normal steg over the ancient
That would probably actually make it useful, even though it would happen on average less than once per game (assuming a turn or two it is in combat so cannot shoot) but no, first FAQ after the army book came out they said poison only effected the first model then... Disappeared or something. Doesn't make sense to me, attacks from a poisoned sword can poison as many models as you have attacks, don't see how thats different.
i think it is because you can kill 6 britona horses in one shot because it does not matter if your strenght drops -1 for every rank ;P
True. Was probably considdered too good. However I wanted a senario in which u get a +1 to wound on every roll to make up for the fact that you dont have the 1/6 chanse of autowound on the rest of the models. That would have made sence as well. On a sepperate note, where does the arrow hit in a unit. The side the center or where one of the players decide. This is mostly interesting when it comes to characters in second ranks and units composed of different models.
I use a regular Stegadon. No reason really, but the lower costs makes it better in my opinion. You still have Toughness 6, so he can handle fire just as well. And I really like that giant bow. In one on may games it managed to take out two chariots, with some help from the skinks.
Ignoring bad spelling (that really annoys me...), are you saying that his Thunderstomp attacks are poisoned as well? He has poison feet?!
Lol, I thought you were talking about the ancient steg (got your name mixed up with what you were talking about). Just the first one hit is poisoned with the bolt thrower. And yes, the regular steg's weapon is worthless, which is why you should throw it in combat as soon as you can if you decide to take it.
sorry for the bad spelling i can't help it got dyslexia and that combinated with a diffrend language makes it inposible for me to spel good...... ancient stegadon wrote: well if you ask me about experince i still say ancient stegadon because the last time i used it i was not only able to break the unit that was protecting a war machine it was also able to kill the warmachine sins it has 2 times 2D6 inpact hits wich are poinsion Ignoring bad spelling (that really annoys me...), are you saying that his Thunderstomp attacks are poisoned as well? Dont worry about spelling, you got your point across - I wasn't trying to complain or anything, it wasn't personal.
